    Job Purpose

    Under the general direction and guidance of the President and CEO, responsible for the provision of effective financial management of the Credit Union. The CFO must have strong leadership skills and possess the ability to guide and inspire outstanding performance. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, have a high level of professionalism, excellent verbal and written communication capabilities, exceptional analytical abilities, and great leadership skills contributing to the development, implementation, and administration of Coastal1’s goals and objectives.

    Education and Experience:

    • A college degree in accounting, finance, or business is essential.
    • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in a bank or credit union.
    • An advanced degree (such as an MBA) and/or CPA certification are advantageous.
    • Ten-plus years of executive leadership experience in accounting and finance.
    • A proven track record of success in a high-performance financial services institution with assets of $1 billion or larger.
    • Alternatively, unique qualifications within a credit union, community bank, or regional bank.
    • Computer proficiency to include MS Office and assorted banking/accounting software and internet research.
    • Proven ability to gather and analyze data and information, draw logical conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Advanced knowledge in State, Federal, and Compliance Banking regulatory issues.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Effective presentation skills.
    • Proven problem-solving ability. Ability to reach decisions by thinking strategically for short-and long-term solutions.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Time management/organizational/multi-tasking skills.
    • Ability to maintain a positive and upbeat Credit Union image.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sometimes controversial information securely.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels and functions of the organization to coordinate solutions.
    • Ability to effectively balance policies, procedures, and administrative requirements of the Credit Union.
    • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Strategic Planning and Leadership:

    • Counsel the CEO/President and Board of Directors on fiscal control, profitability, and probable financial outcome of current and proposed actions.
    • Contribute to the annual strategic planning process ensuring financial discipline to support recommendations and decisions.
    • Develop and implement financial policies.
    • Advise on operational adjustments due to regulatory changes and economic issues.

    Accounting and Financial Management:

    • Direct the accounting function to ensure compliance with Accounting Standards and applicable regulatory requirements. Keep current on all pertinent regulatory changes affecting the financial reporting and accounting functions as well as the impact of changes on procedures and policies.
    • Oversee proper and timely development of the annual budget. Ensure conformance of budgeted amounts with goals and objectives of annual strategic plan. Provide for ongoing monitoring of actual results compared to budget, analyze variances, detect trends, and inform appropriate management of any needed corrective actions.
    • Perform/oversee the tax planning and preparation functions. Keep current with developments in federal, state, and local tax regulations and statutes. Implement operating strategies to avoid payment of unnecessary taxes.
    • Provide financial analyses of profitability trends, cash flow and cash flow forecasts, net margin, expenses, return on investments, trend projections, etc.
    • Utilize a wide variety of analytical techniques to continually monitor, interpret and make suggestions relating to the financial performance of the Credit Union.

    Asset/Liability Management (ALM):

    • Oversee the Asset/Liability Management process and ensure compliance with the ALM Policy. Report results and recommend changes in financial strategy to top management, the ALM/Investment and Budget Committee and the Board.
    • Monitor cash flows, liquidity levels and changes in reserves in conformity with the Liquidity Policy.

    Investment Portfolio Management:

    • Manage the investment portfolio in conformity with the Investment Policy.
    • Fulfill all fiduciary obligations as a member of the Credit Union's 401(k) Investment Committee, including the review of the annual 401(k) audit.
    • Recommend securities and investments, ensuring compliance with policies, goals, and regulations.
    • Conduct financial analyses to appraise the credit union’s position.

    Financial Reporting and Controls:

    • Prepare/present financial reports for senior management and the Board.
    • Issue periodic financial and operating reports that accurately depict the credit union’s financial condition.
    • Oversee accounting staff in maintaining proper records and accounting system controls.
    • Develop and maintain fully competent staff and exercise appropriate authority in staffing, performance, appraisals, promotions, training, salary recommendations, staffing planning and employee development.

    Risk Management:

    • Oversee Risk Management and control as it relates to the financial health of the credit union such as liquidity risk, interest rate risk and transactional risk.
    • Coordinate the due diligence performed, summarize the results, and report to the Board on proposed new product offerings.
    • Monitor and report on interest rate risk and liquidity risk, contributing to risk mitigation strategies.

    Perform other duties as required.
