Legal Services Director oversees the activities of the organization's legal department. Provides legal advice, interpretation, and guidance to senior management and officers regarding contracts, state/federal regulatory requirements, intellectual property or trademark protection, and other business matters. Being a Legal Services Director reviews all information and prepares defense for any legal actions against the organization or advises on prosecuting lawsuits on behalf of the organization. Coordinates and reviews the work of internal or external legal staff. Additionally, Legal Services Director manages staff of attorneys. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Requires admittance to a state bar. Typically reports to top management. The Legal Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Legal Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. POSITION OVERVIEW:
St John’s Community Health – Legal Services Program (SJCH) is seeking an energetic, passionate advocate to join our team in fighting for justice for low-income patients of St John’s Community Health through innovative, collaborative, community-centered lawyering to address inequities and pursue economic justice.
SJCH provides high-quality direct legal representation in the following areas: family law, immigration law, housing law, domestic violence, administrative law, re-entry, consumer law, estate planning, probate law, restorative justice, and other areas. The office provides self-help and limited-scope assistance and provides full-scope representation to the patients of SJCH and residents of LA County through grant-based projects.
Our program has rapidly grown from a single attorney to a staff of 11, and we seek someone with the experience and energy to continue our growth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with great leadership skills and vision to come in and continue the growth already underway.
