Summary
Manages the Bus FMLA team and oversees the daily processing of all Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA), Family Leave Insurance (FLI) and New Jersey Safety and Financial Empowerment Act (NJ SAFE Act) applications for all non-agreement and agreement employees of NJ Transit Bus Operations (NJTBus).
Roles and Responsibilities:

Ensures FMLA Tracking System is updated daily; participates in FMLA/FLA training for all Bus Operations Field Supervisors; counsels bus operations employees on rights and responsibilities; assists in recommending cases for recertification to ensure compliance and prevent abuse of family leave. In the absence of Bus FMLA Coordinator(s), handles the daily processing of requests. Designates FMLA and tracks usage for Bus Operations employees who are eligible while on workers compensation and disability. Responds to requests for information from the Department of Labor for the processing of all FLI applications by NJTBus employees.

Serves as contract administrator for all real estate agreements within NJTBus. Working with the DGM, Bus Administration and the Attorney General's Office, negotiates and drafts permits, licenses and leases for NJTBus. Reviews and processes all monthly invoices for payment. Ensures compliance and timely renewal of all real estate agreements for NJTBus.
- Acts as Records Management coordinator on behalf of NJTBus. Responsible for creating retention schedules for all departments within NJTBus, and works with the Board Office to ensure compliance with record retention policies.

Monitors, reviews and makes recommendation with respect to legislative changes affecting Bus Administration.
- In coordination with Human Resources Department, participates in updating all policies relating to Bus Administration.
- Conducts legal research for matters involving Bus Administration via Westlaw and other sources.
- Handles special projects as assigned by the DGM Bus Administration.
This position supervises:
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts or other related area.

Five (5) years of paralegal experience and experience with family leave laws including: FMLA, NJFLA, FLI and NJ SAFE Act

Strong administrative background and familiarity with various departments within NJ Transit

Ability to work with laws, regulations and policies governing public agencies.

Knowledge of legal terminology and ability to research and analyze statutes, regulations and case law.

Westlaw or Nexis and other legal research knowledge required.

Aspects of the work may require being in the field which includes garages which can be a loud, busy environment.
Other Conditions:

Travel as necessary to Garages and other NJ TRANSIT Facilities.
