BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide technical supervision of the lab to ensure adequate regulatory oversight and compliance for clinical (as certified by CLIA) and environmental testing (as certified by TCEQ). This is accomplished by documenting necessary components for regulatory compliance, monitoring plans and procedures, coordinating tasks with internal departments, ensuring that sample collections and testing occur, assessing program, facilities and operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
The position is to complete clinical and biological testing. This is accomplished by receiving and inspecting samples, logging information, maintaining quality control processes, maintaining equipment, preparing equipment and chemicals, testing samples, and reporting results. Other duties include writing results, maintaining records, labeling and storing supplies, checking and maintaining equipment, and cleaning the laboratory Position provides technical supervision and support, to include training, to the other laboratory position(s), and coordinates with Consultant Laboratory Director (physician) on quality control review and assurance.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Appropriate certification must be held in one of the national medical technology registry organizations and must be able to meet CLIA supervisory requirements for Clinical Laboratories. Must also meet the requirements of the TNI technical manager (TCEQ) for environmental laboratories within one (1) year of hire. Certified Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Position requires a minimum of a 4-year Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, which is preferred, or in lieu of that, a 4-year degree in another biological science such as Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, etc.

2 L Provides technical supervision and oversight of clinical laboratory activities by ensuring regulatory compliance (CLIA), monitoring trends and quality control, reviewing testing and abnormal results, answering questions and inquiries, providing information to health care providers and staff, and reviewing all reports from the lab. Includes providing technical support and training to the other lab position(s).
3 L Provides technical supervision and oversight of the water functions within the laboratory by ensuring regulatory compliance (TCEQ), monitoring trends and quality control, reviewing testing and abnormal results, answering questions and inquiries, providing information to customers and staff, reviewing all reports from the lab and serving on committees to ensure community preparedness. Includes providing technical support and training to the other lab position.
4 L Supports the environmental health division by receiving samples from environmental health staff; samples may include those from food establishments and hotels/motels; testing and reporting results. Includes providing technical support and training to the other lab position(s).
5 S Secures and logs the collection of samples by obtaining required sample volumes in appropriate storage devices, maintaining all protocols and procedures for collection and storage, checking labels, completing chain of custody documents, rejecting poor samples, processing, and logging into records.
6 L Tests samples by following procedures, deleting samples if appropriate, setting up quality controls, calibrating instruments, labeling containers, calculating and verifying results, and preparing and certifying results, and validating entries prior to release of information.
7 L Completes quality control procedures by performing daily checks of all materials and samples, reviewing temperatures, checking water quality, balancing weights, calibrating equipment, graphing results, and completing preventive maintenance on equipment
8 S Completes administrative tasks and cleans area by washing all glassware and bottles, cleaning work areas, checking and verifying equipment, completing routine maintenance, answering the phone and responding to inquiries, evaluating new procedures, and pursing continuing education training.

Formal Education Work requires broad knowledge in a general profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Experience Over two years up to and including three years.
