    Job Description

    Join the Naval Nuclear Laboratory as a Supervisor for the Fire Protection Work Group! Located at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, the supervisor will oversee the work group consist of four plumbers and one electrician. The successful supervisor will establish work practices which implement policies, processes, and procedures that hold direct reports accountable and ensure the correct and timely execution of operations work in addition to tracking the work groups weekly productivity metrics. Specific efforts of supervisor will be focused on managing the assigned work tasks and ensuring the work is properly prioritized with available resources to execute. The supervisor will work closely with the Fire Protection Engineering group to coordinate efforts and accomplish assigned work. A successful candidate must be able to work weekends, off-hours and OT to address emergent issues or site priorities. The general duties of work group include the following: corrective maintenance of building sprinkler systems, underground fire water system, local suppression systems, and the various devices connected to the emergency alert system. Other primary duties of the fire protection work group include performing preventive maintenance in accordance with the applicable NFPA codes.


    The successful supervisor must also be able to interface and team with personnel at all levels of the O&M organization and the BLS community. Lastly, the successful supervisor must be able to handle a variety of tasks, most often simultaneously (well organized) in a highly demanding operations unit to ensure schedules are maintained. The supervisor will work to support the improvement of the site's fire protection systems through the following responsibilities:

    • Working with engineering to develop overall strategies in planning the execution of work.
    • Training personnel in accordance with established procedure to complete an assigned task.
    • Formulating improved work strategies to address future work effort. Additionally, individual will assist a team responsible for a key role in addressing site-wide radiological casualties.

    Certifications/Qualifications:

    • The supervisor qualifications strongly preferred include a production contamination supervisor (PCS)
    • If selected these will be obtained within 6 months or as agreed to with OM management includes a LOTO Supervisor, Asbestos Supervisor, and Scaffold competency.

    Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Preferred Skills

    Current production contamination supervisor qualification

    Previous fire protection systems experience

    Experience performing preventive maintenance in accordance with the applicable NFPA codes

    Pay Range

    $92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually

    Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations
