The City of Lansing is seeking a full-time Laboratory Supervisor for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical, Environmental Engineering, or a related science field.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of laboratory work experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Previous experience in a Wastewater treatment, monitoring, and regulatory reporting experience, preferred.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Supervises, directs, and monitors the work of subordinate personnel.
- Able to operate, maintain and conduct analysis of various parameters utilizing a wide range of equipment including: Atomic Absorption spectrophotometer, Atomic Vapor Assessory /Hydride Unit, Furnace Atomizer, Ultra Violet Visible spectrophotometer, Analytic Balance, Cyanide and Ammonia Nitrogen Distillation Units, ph meters, Nitrate Reduction Apparatus, Dissolved Oxygen and Conductivity Meters, an Ammonia Nitrogen Analyzer, chlorine Analyze, nitrogen digester, ovens, furnaces, block digesters, dissolve oxygen meters, incubators, autoclave, and oil and grease analyzer and digester.
- Perform a wide range of chemical, microscopic and/or microbiological testing procedures as needed for regulatory reporting and the efficient operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant; ensure samples are properly received, organized and prepared for analysis.
- Maintains QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) program to ensure accurate, precise and efficient analysis.
- Documents and analyzes failures in the QA/QC program by making hand written notations and/or input into a computer.
- Tests for wide range of allowed parameters for such substances as cyanide, oil and grease, phosphates, ammonia, mercury, chrome and many other substances, requiring application of principles of scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Compiles data for EGLE (Environment, Great Lakes and Energy), the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and other purposes, by gathering and organizing hand written and printed information into various weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports based on interpretation of daily test documentation.
