- Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fitter Supervisor to work onsite out of our Central Facilities Area located approximately one hour from Idaho Falls, ID. You will directly manage a team of Fitters who maintain and repair the facility systems and complete shop work requests. You will rely on your experience in fitting/plumbing practices to plan and accomplish goals. Responsibilities Include: - Manage the achievement of designated performance standards. Staff is geographically close, but individuals may be field deployed. Coordinates the activities only within the assigned group. - Ensure and assign training and resources to accomplish work safely and efficiently. - Support and represent us in collective bargaining unit litigation or grievance matters. - Work with management to implement established laboratory safety and work control policies, procedures, and standards. - Understand strategic importance of collaboration with building tenants, research programs, and landlord organizations. May have moderate involvement with entities external to working group. - Provide direction, leadership, supervision, and coordination for multi-discipline crafts as they perform preventive and corrective maintenance across the INL. Plan and schedule the work of designated personnel, ensuring adequate staff and the proper distribution of assignments. Understand, own, model, and message Lab values, priorities, and goals and assist in initiatives that further the vision and mission. - Perform pre-job briefs to remove all doubt concerning the expectations of all work performed safely. Ensure all assigned employees are trained, qualified, and medically fit to perform work. Provide leadership out in the field observing and interacting with staff during the course of work. - Lead continuous improvement processes, techniques, and goals. Make judgments on equipment and processes to utilize with the objectives of saving time and materials using continuous improvement tools. Expected to foster a climate to improve working conditions and equipment to increase efficiency of staff by using continuous improvement processes and methods. - Ensure that crafts have the necessary resources to complete assigned maintenance. Ensure that assigned crafts are provided the tools and appropriate materials. Participate in development of craft training plans and verify training is maintained and current by supporting the facility training schedule. Recommend self and staff professional development opportunities. Participate in leadership opportunities (LOSA, Supervisor’s Forum, First-line Leadership Training). - Establish and maintain working relationships with staff. Motivate and reward staff. Provide a safe, secure, and supportive work environment. Performance manage team: Set expectations, monitor performance, and hold individuals accountable (positive/negative). Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
