Position Description:
The Scientist will be trained to conduct routine and advanced preparation and analytical procedures on a variety of environmental samples. Adherence to approved methods, laboratory SOPS and QA/QC standards is critically important. Working cooperatively with other laboratory professionals is integral to success at Katahdin Analytical Services. Our scientists are encouraged to consider and communicate ideas for process improvements, and are expected to adopt new practices and process improvements as directed by the department supervisor. Responsibilities may include sample preparation/extraction, operating analytical instrumentation, handling standards and reagents, performing data reduction, maintaining required documentation, and performing routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Responsibilities may also include training of new employees, diagnosing non-routine instrument problems, and conducting peer review of analysts’ data at the discretion of the manager.
Requirements:
· Ability to organize, structure daily tasks and adapt to changes in priorities.
· Ability to multitask, work in a highly productive environment, and work independently or as part of a small team once fully trained.
· Must possess strong observational skills, intellectual curiosity, and a dedication to best practices. Familiarity with basic laboratory science techniques and principles is essential. Production laboratory experience is a plus.
· Strong interpersonal skills are important since the role involves working with a team of Katahdin scientists and interacting with support staff.
Education:
BA/BS degree in Chemistry or related field such as Biology or Environmental Science, with laboratory experience;
We will consider relevant experience in place of a 4-year science degree.
