Laboratory Services Director manages the daily activities of the laboratory. Develops laboratory policies and procedures and issues updates as needed. Being a Laboratory Services Director plans and designs experiments. Estimates the time and resources needed to complete projects. Additionally, Laboratory Services Director orders and inspects materials and equipment and maintains detailed and accurate inventory of lab supplies. Requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Laboratory Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Laboratory Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Overview:
Directs and coordinates the technical and administrative activities of assigned laboratory sections. Responsibilities include: Strategic planning, quality improvement activities, financial performance, human resources management, and compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements. Responsible for departmental charge development, coding, and other billing activities. Develops and monitors operating, capital, and payroll budgets to assure cost effective stewardship of resources. Assists Laboratory Managers and Supervisors in monitoring/maintaining productivity standards and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies.
