Laboratory Manager manages the daily activities of the laboratory. Develops laboratory policies and procedures and issues updates as needed. Being a Laboratory Manager plans and designs experiments. Estimates the time and resources needed to complete projects. Additionally, Laboratory Manager orders and inspects materials and equipment and maintains detailed and accurate inventory of lab supplies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Laboratory Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Laboratory Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     SDL is seeking applicants for a program manager position supporting the Advanced Warfighting Capabilities Branch at Headquarters USSPACECOM in Colorado Springs, CO.  The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the examination of USSPACECOM’s mission needs and the analysis of solutions across a range of operational, scientific, and technical topics.  Applicants need to have knowledge and experience in a variety of technologies related to space system operations, development, command and control, or test and evaluation.  You’ll be part of a larger team composed of USSPACECOM staff, external partners, scientists, developers, engineers, and operational personnel. Experience working in a DoD command headquarters staff environment, or a space system program office is a plus. A technical background is essential and operational space experience is highly desirable.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Understand and address customer needs and issues, usually by working directly with the customer
    • Support complex system technical analysis and provide clear and responsive recommendations to advance capabilities with achievable solutions
    • Work in a team-oriented mode while making direct individual contributions to the team's overall success
    • Provide technical support to government personnel assigned as Operational Managers of USSPACECOM projects. 
    • Maintain close coordination with multiple scientific, corporate, and government agencies to achieve desired outcomes
    • Research unique scientific, technical, and operational concepts to obtain comprehensive topical understanding in support of branch and division objectives
    • Develop a strong partner relationship with the customer technical and leadership teams
    • Present data informally and formally to customer groups and other key stakeholders
    • Strong understanding of SDL’s core technologies and capabilities, and assemble/direct SDL resources to provide reach-back capabilities when required

    Required Qualifications:
    • MS in a STEM degree field or a BS in a STEM degree field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience applicable to space systems
    • Five or more years of program experience, within the last 8 years that are directly related to space systems operations, development, test or evaluation activities
    • Ability to understand complex technical issues, translate them to workable tasks, and guide technical discussions and decisions
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a complex environment
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient in Office 365 applications
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
    • Must be able to travel to support mission needs (< 20%)
    Highly Valued Qualifications:
    • Headquarters staff experience at USSPACECOM, USSF, SSC, NRO
    • Experience with DoD technical programs such as, but not limited to advanced spacecraft propulsion, multi-domain effects, spacecraft command and control, directed energy applications, and dynamic space operations
    • Demonstrated success managing high tempo/high visibility projects
