    Position Overview:

    The IT Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Information Systems Project Manager III with extensive experience and expertise in Information Technology. The Project Manager will lead projects and strategic initiatives in alignment with the SLAC IT Project Management Office (ITPMO) standards and methodology. Independently manage and coordinate the entire IT project lifecycle, including framing, planning, and execution. This position reports to the IT Project Office Manager.

    Your specific responsibilities include:

    • Manage the entire collection of projects and/or programs undertaken by an organization or division in a manner that ensures their alignment with the university’s strategic objectives. Typically proposes new initiatives and champions the business and technical planning and conceptual efforts for major projects and initiatives. Provide limited technical contribution as nee successfully complete projects.
    • Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed.
    • Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
    • Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus.
    • Create and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to
    • project/portfolio scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
    • Manage large and complex projects with high performance risk, driving project(s) to completion. May manage more than one large project simultaneously. Work is typically comprised of 80% time contribution towards project leadership and 20% as a technical contributor.
    • Provide feedback to CIO, CoS, Directors, Line Managers, IT Management, Review Boards and key stakeholders on project performance, status, issues, and risks.
    • Establish milestones, deliverables & acceptance criteria. Communicate progress against the base-lined projects. Facilitate the process to capture business/scientific drivers, requirements, and IT design.
    • Identify, track, resolve issues/concerns related to projects and escalate as appropriate. Perform preliminary business analysis and clarification of customer requirements. Ensure appropriate system/software development lifecycle and project management methodologies are applied to work.
    • Manage project and portfolio risk and quality appropriately.
    • Ensure identification and management of downstream systems integrations. Assess, incorporate, and disseminate lessons learned from project outcomes.
    • Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
    • Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus.
    • Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
    • Other duties may also be assigned.

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    • Bachelor’s degree in information systems engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field and Ten years of related experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
    • Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
    • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
    • Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality.
    • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
    • Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
    • Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects. This includes experience in the following areas:
    • In-depth technology experience in at least one technical area, (IT operations, applications development, software/hardware engineering, etc.).
    • Demonstrated experience working in a customer-focused environment, ability to adapt to changing priorities and requests and provide excellent viable solutions. Customer Service Skills are critical to the success of project management and this role.
    • Ability to take calculated risks for projects and manage risk within a portfolio framework.

    Certifications and licenses:

    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or a certified completion of a Project Management Certificate program, or certification in process or combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a PMP required.

    The expected pay range for this position is $164,000 - $196,000. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
