Being a Laboratory Courier is responsible for maintenance and care of vehicle. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Laboratory Courier must be licensed to operate a vehicle. Licensing requirements depend on the state. Must have a "satisfactory" driving record. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Laboratory Courier may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the Courier is responsible for driving assigned routes to pick up and deliver specimens, supplies, mail and other items as required to the appropriate location in a timely manner. All other duties as requested. May have contact with hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, laboratory personnel, vendors, and regulatory or accrediting agencies. Frequent with physician office staff, delivery personnel, and vendors; will have community visibility throughout the region.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma, preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires walking, bending, pushing, pulling, stretching, and lifting. May require lifting greater than 50 lbs. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License. Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations. Requires use of equipment such as automobile, hand carts, two way communication device, etc.
