SCHEDULE
Regular Call-In Position (Day)
Must be available Monday - Saturday from 5:30am to 6:00pm and Sunday 6:30am to 11:00am.
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.
JOB SUMMARY
Transports laboratory specimens, reports, supplies and other items and serves as a representative of the company in the field. Represents the company in interactions with clients, patients, and the public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Transports laboratory specimens, lab reports, supplies, and other items according to established procedures.
- Operates company vehicle.
- Utilize defensive driving skills, abide by all traffic laws, and all regulations while operating company vehicle.
- Immediately report any unsafe vehicle conditions to management.
- Follows all established policies and procedures regarding vehicle operation.
- Performs daily check of assigned vehicle utilizing vehicle checklist.
- Adjusts scheduled route to accommodate operational needs.
- Provides feedback to Dispatcher or management when non-routine situations occur on the route.
- Operates and maintains work equipment such as, but not limited to, documentation device, phone, keys, and access cards.
- Adheres to security requirements at all locations when entering and exiting premises.
- Provides pertinent feedback regarding clients to applicable departments.
- May assist clients in maintaining supply inventory and preparation of supply orders.
- Identifies and analyzes problems; makes decisions and takes appropriate action(s).
- Assists internal and external customers with questions, concerns, problems, etc.
- Communicates relevant information to team members, supervisor, and other appropriate people in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Supports organizational performance and strategy by providing information and contributing to quality improvements, as appropriate.
- Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with DLS safety policies and procedures. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries to supervisor promptly.
- Maintains a positive work climate and effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Maintains attendance as scheduled/assigned, consistent with DLS policies and procedures.
- Attends and/or participates in activities such as but not limited to meetings, required in-service programs, and continuing education and competency assessments.
- Models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and shared values of the organization.
- Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
Neighbor Island Satellites/ Guam/ Saipan
- Monitors and schedules maintenance of vehicle.
- Ensures professional appearance and cleanliness of vehicle.
- Responds to phone calls for requests such as, but not limited to, patient results, supplies, and mail.
- Obtains supplies such as dry ice, office products, etc as needed. Unpacks and stores supplies.
- Covers all routes on their island.
- Handles packing and shipping of specimens according to IATA requirements.
- Prepares supplies for client delivery.
JOB DEMANDS
Communication Demands:
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Able to effectively communicate information to internal and external customers in informal settings such as one-on-one and small group situations.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities.
- Requires fine manipulation, simple grasping and firm grasping.
- Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Requires talking and hearing up to 8 hours on a continual basis.
- Requires lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling items weighting up to 35 pounds on a frequent basis.
Performs the following activities on a continual or intermittent basis:
- Walking up to 6 hours
- Driving up to 6 hours
- Sitting up to 4 hours
- Standing up to 2 hours
- Climbing stairs up to 2 hours
- Getting in/out of vehicles up to 2 hours
- Bending up to 1 hour
Typical Working Conditions:
- Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with biohazardous materials, potentially hazardous chemicals and/or patients with communicable diseases.
- Works primarily in an outdoor environment, which will expose employee to varied weather conditions and climates (hot, cool, wet, and humid).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year driving experience required.
- One-year patient care, medical laboratory or equivalent public contact experience preferred.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both in verbal and written form.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Other Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid State of Hawaii (or equivalent) motor vehicle license and a current, clean traffic abstract.
- Familiarity of local geographic areas preferred.
