    Position Summary

    The Science and Wellness Division at The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is accepting applications for a Lecturer II or III position, which is a full-time, 9-month position. The position begins January 08, 2024.

    Summary of duties and responsibilities: This position requires providing 27 credit hours across the academic year, which will be divided between classroom instruction and coordination of the Undergraduate Research Program Laboratory. Typically, there will be 6 credit hours of classroom instruction each semester, and either 6 or 9 credit hours of reassigned time to coordinate the undergraduate research laboratory.  The course subject will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications. These courses may be lecture or laboratory based, and face-to-face, hybrid, or online. Responsibilities as teaching faculty include maintaining academic rigor and integrity, maintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records, posting and maintaining office hours, attendance at faculty and department meetings, and other duties consistent with the role as a branch community college faculty member. Also, there is expected participation in the lecture-track promotion committee, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (related to teaching field and undergraduate research), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. The applicant must also be prepared to oversee, in coordination with science faculty, the Undergraduate Research Laboratory.  This research coordinator position is multidisciplinary, including but not limited to biology, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, geology, and physics.  Responsibilities as the Undergraduate Program Laboratory Coordinator include: collaboration in the design, execution, quality control, data analysis and interpretation, and presentation of student research projects at local, regional, and/or national conferences, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, maintaining the technical and scientific aspects of a greenhouse, maintaining laboratory safety, and other duties consistent with the coordination of an undergraduate research multidisciplinary scientific laboratory.

    Salary Base: salary for a nine-month faculty position is $51,000. Summer teaching is possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent package of benefits is provided.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • ·        Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Geology, or Physics or in a closely related field
    • ·         At least one year of experience teaching at a post-secondary institution
    • ·         At least one year participating in scientific research

     

     Preferred Qualifications: 

    • ·       Ph.D. or all but dissertation in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Geology or in a closely related field
    • ·       Qualification and willingness to teach anatomy and physiology, including cadaver laboratory and prosection
    • ·      Demonstrated excellence in teaching
    • ·      More than one year of experience teaching at a 2-year community college
    • ·      Experience and certification for teaching online or hybrid/blended courses
    • ·      Evidence of commitment to and potential for service and professional development (scholarly work)
    • ·      Two or more years managing a research laboratory and demonstrated ability to work outside the primary field of experience
    • ·      A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, and working with diverse communities
