Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven's Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab's fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.
The Business Services Directorate (BSD) has openings for student assistant positions within varying business offices within the office of the CFO (OCFO).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Student Assistant will work in one or more of the following areas that report to the OCFO: Budget Office, Fiscal (Accounting, Accounts Payable, Travel, Conference Management, Payment Processing), Procurement and Property Management, and Information Technology which support the Business Directorate and within Internal Audit Office.
The students will assist with the preparation of financial reporting using PeopleSoft or other accounting software, travel expense audits, payroll timecard preparation, contract close-outs, internal audit planning, business system report language, report writing and in support of:
