LAN Support supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN. Recommends and schedules repairs. Being a LAN Support provides end users support for all LAN- based applications. Installs and configures workstations. Additionally, LAN Support may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a project leader or manager. The LAN Support work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Primary Duties
Analyzing maintenance work items when required to perform maintenance or repair May be required to perform growth, equipment upgrades, turn-ups, etc. on transport/data equipment May be required to work on new data chassis installations that will displace an existing chassis or be a new entity May be required to work on various system power components including but not limited to: batteries, power supplies, and inverters Performing repair/maintenance on the transport equipment (may include DCS, SONET, and various other types of fiber/transport systems) Performing repair/maintenance on the data equipment (may include LAN, WAN, ATM, Ethernet, and various other types of data services systems) Interfacing with vendors May be required to work on building alarms May be required to cross train others May be required to perform turn-up and maintenance on DS3 and above equipment/facilities May be required to perform turn-up and maintenance on ATM, Ethernet, and other data services listed above Reviews and interprets lan/data specs and special services circuit orders Places and removes connections related to circuit design orders, TIRKS, AEGIS and any other support system documents May be required to place and remove connections related to service orders and circuit design orders on the DSX-3, LGX, and data services offerings such as ATM and Ethernet Sets options on plug-ins (Blades, Routers, DDM, DCS, DDM-1000, FLM, etc.) Uses various types of test sets to test, analyze in the Central Office (T-Berd, T-Com, Exfo, Acterna, Volt/Ohmmeter, etc.) Uses various types of data services test sets to test, analyze, and repair LAN, WAN, ATM, Ethernet data services May be required to use various types of DS3 or optical test sets to test, analyze, and repair DS3 and above services Works with field technicians, NOC technicians, and testers to resolve troubles on special circuits, hi-caps, DS1 facilities, data services, etc. May work with field technicians, NOC technicians, and testers to resolve troubles on DS3 and above services May maintain equipment at other than regularly assigned central offices which may require driving between central offices or to REB/ORM locations Reviews and interprets schematic diagrams, circuit descriptions, and follow standard practices Requires use of PC and/or equivalent to interface with supports systems (i.e. REMEDY, TIRKS, Aegis, etc.) Observes important security precautions, safety and housekeeping standards Reviews and interprets service orders, special service circuit orders, and CTAP orders Ownership/accountability for accurate and timely completion of service turn-up May be required to assist other work groups as needed, ex. Switch related work, Transport related work, etc.

Experience/Background
Demonstrated experience in data chassis and transport technology Demonstrated experience in the installation and report of special services and DS1 services Demonstrated experience using various types of test equipment, (i.e. T-Berd, T-Com, Exfo, Acterna, Volt/Ohmmeter, etc.) Demonstrated experience working with network transport elements (DDM,DCS, DDM1000, FLM, etc.) Demonstrated experience with routers, bridges, hubs, as well as UNIX operating systems Demonstrated willingness to take on responsibility for turn-up and installation of customer services in the CO/ORM environments on data service offerings Demonstrated experience interpreting TIRKS Word documents Demonstrated experience in PC skills Associate Degree in a technical related field
Work Environment
Work location: Various Normal tours of 8 hours, facility will be open 24 hours a day. Requires day, evening, or night tours, overtime, emergency callouts, weekends or holidays Work performed in team oriented and customer focused environment Size of office and work group varies depending on location Works independently with minimal supervision
