Kitchen Manager manages the daily operations of the kitchen, which may include but not limited to: accounting, finance, staff working schedule, inventory control and equipment supplies. Additionally, Kitchen Manager typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Kitchen Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Tavern Bartender / Beverage Manager

  • Woodberry Kitchen is looking for a full-time experienced bartender to work at the heart of the beautifully renovated intimate 28-seat restaurant. This is an exciting role for someone with deep beverage knowledge and interest in working with the best ingredients grown in the Mid-Atlantic.

    The Tavern Bartender will work with James Beard Award-winning chef Spike Gjerde to maintain and execute a high-caliber beverage program that compliments the culinary program in the Tavern. The role will include driving an incredible guest experience at the bar nightly, helping with cocktail development according to established standards, ordering and inventory duties, and supervising the closing of the restaurant. This role is 5-days per week (Wed-Sun) including 4 nights and one Sunday brunch shift. The role is primarily in service, with 2-3 hours of administrative work before service.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage a compelling list of cocktails, organic and biodynamic wine, beer, and spirits that reflects our sourcing practices, continuously improves, features great presentation, and maintains profitability
    • Order bar ingredients, spirits, wine, and beer accurately and maintain a beverage cost of goods below target margin
    • Own responsibility for Tavern Bar Prep. Set up for service nightly including directing bar mise en place and ensuring each service is set up with efficiency, cleanliness, and organization in mind
    • Provide warm hospitality and efficient service for bar guests while managing tickets from table orders and making those drinks efficiently
    • Work with Spike in the cocktail development process, including testing recipes, documenting recipes, establishing pars and proper storage of ingredients. Develop deep understanding of Woodberry's approach to sourcing and use it to inform our beverage program
    • Adhere to all policies as provided by HR regarding staff disciplinary action, onboarding, anti-discrimination, harassment, ethical behavior, and any other policy defined in the Handbook or otherwise
    • Maintain a positive and professional approach with the team and guests

    Qualifications:

    • 3 years of bartending experience, preferably in a high-volume environment
    • Knowledge of classic cocktail recipes and general cocktail procedures
    • Ability to learn and execute new cocktail recipes
    • Wine and craft beer knowledge/expertise required
    • Friendly, professional demeanor with guests
    • Ability to take direction and to work and collaborate as a team member
    • Ability to be on your feet for significant stretches of time and to lift approximately 50 lb
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for delicious, locally-sourced food and beverage is a plus!

    Compensation:

    Starting at $26/hour, tips (pooled, typically $5-8/hr additional)
