OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER

  • Duties

    As an OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER, WG-3306-10, you will repair, modify, overhaul, inspect, troubleshoot, test, adjust and clean the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes. Visually inspect optical instrument equipment and operate mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. Perform other duties as assigned. Abide by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Serve as a commodity inspector during technical inspections, Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET) or Maintenance Assistance and (MAIT) Instruction Team. Perform other duties as assigned.

    • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
    • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
    • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

    Qualifications

    Military Grades: E-5 through CW3

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Experience or training with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blueprints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages. Experience using hand and power tools common to an optical shop.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training repairing, rebuilding, overhauling systems, and components of optical instrument equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunction in determining remedy where complex relationships exist among optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems. Experience in the use of a variety of measuring and testing equipment. Experience interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
