Interventional Radiological Technologist assists physicians in interventional procedures and provides diagnostic aid by conducting organ or body scans on patients. Administers and records isotope dosage in accordance with established departmental protocol. Being an Interventional Radiological Technologist observes patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity. Typically requires a bachelor's degree, at least 2 years of experience in radiology and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Additionally, Interventional Radiological Technologist typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. Interventional Radiological Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Radiological Control Technician

  • Job Description:

    An RCT, will provide direct support to field implementation of the Radiation Protection Program through the execution of radiological job coverage, workplace surveys, and documentation of radiological data. In addition, the RCT will assist and mentor less experienced RCTs in the execution of radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency response, and the implementation of radiation work permits and other work documents.
    Minimum Job Requirements:
    • Demonstrated advanced-level experience and technical knowledge in radiation protection principles and practices, and ability to implement those principles in at least one area of health physics (e.i. accelerators, reactors, actinides)
    • Extensive demonstrated advanced experience in radiation monitoring, personnel exposure control, and other radiation protection activities
    • Demonstrated advanced skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of radiological safety/protection to all levels of personnel
    • Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigation alternative solutions, and recommending solution on problems affecting radiological safety/protection
    • Demonstrated advanced ability to provide technical leadership to other technicians
    • Extensive experience in coordination of activities at very high levels of complexity
    • Demonstrated advanced technical ability, which is expected to be advanced in at least several health physics areas (e.g. air monitoring, accelerators instrumentation, software development, and applied health physics)
    • Demonstrated advanced ability to implement improvement actions and ensure ongoing performance
    • Advanced ability and experience in using computer-based office applications such as e-mail and word processing applications
    Minimum Education and Relevant Years of Experience:
    • High school diploma
    • 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
    Desired Qualifications:
    • Prior DOE RCT experience
    • Currently DOE Core certified
    • NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists)
    • Familiar with LANL policies, practices, and procedures
    Essential Job Functions

    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds; Reading vision; Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception; Ability to speak; Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz).
    • Ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, and climb; in addition to reaching overhead, horizontally, and down; Free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into controlled areas; Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet.
    • Must be physically able to work in demanding environments.
