    Job Description


    The University of Missouri School of Medicine (SOM) is an institution dedicated to advancing medical education, research, and patient care. We are seeking an Interior Designer to join our Space Planning and Design team in the work of conceptualizing, planning, and executing on interior design initiatives. The ideal incumbent is experienced in creating innovative and functional spaces designed to enhance the working and teaching environments of a growing faculty, staff, and student population.

    The Interior Designer for SOM will be responsible for catering to physician offices, executive spaces, student study area, libraries, and medical student training areas. This role combines artistic creativity with a deep understanding of healthcare and educational design principles to create spaces that promote productivity, well-being, and efficiency.

    Job Duties:

    Space Planning: Manage and coordinate space plan projects for offices, classrooms,
    research, laboratory, collaboration, and other key areas ensuring optimal functionality
    and workflow.

    Design Conceptualization: Create and prepare design drafts, color schemes and
    preliminary plans for interiors aligning with university standards as well as additional
    elements, such as ergonomic design.

    Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials, finishes, and furnishings that meet
    university and SOM standards, meet budgeted allotments, and design objectives.
    Furniture Procurement: Collaborate with vendors and procurement teams to select,
    source, and approve specifications for furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) for
    various projects.

    Compliance: Oversee work of outside contractors in the installation of equipment,
    flooring, furnishings, wall and window treatments, etc. for compliance with contract
    documents, code requirements, including ADA compliance and other pertinent
    regulations.

    Collaboration: Work closely with SOM employees as well as other internal stakeholders,
    external colleagues, and vendors to incorporate feedback/input on design solutions
    presented to executive leadership, department chairs, department administrators,
    faculty, and others.

    Project Coordination: Manage workload to ensure accurate and timely completion key
    deliverables on all assigned projects.

    Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, track expenses and resources to ensure budget compliance.

    Salary


    Salary Range: $50,367 - $79,354 Annually

    Grade: GGS-9E

    Minimum Qualifications


    A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

    Vaccination Statement


    Bachelor’s degree in interior design or a related field.
    Experience in academic, healthcare, or commercial interior design, with a portfolio showcasing relevant projects.
    Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite.
    Strong organizational and communication skills.
    Understanding of architectural drawings.
    Strong project management and budgeting skills
    Knowledge of current industry standards related to materials and other elements.
