Insurance and Risk Management Director directs the development and optimization of an organization's overall insurance program to manage and minimize risk and costs. Defines strategic objectives and policies to ensure effective insurance coverage for the organization and to develop risk financing budgeting. Being an Insurance and Risk Management Director implements processes that identify risk exposure and classify, measure, and manage insurable risks. Develops the appropriate mix of insurance coverage for the organization and negotiate policy pricing and terms with vendors. Additionally, Insurance and Risk Management Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Insurance and Risk Management Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Insurance and Risk Management Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     About the Position

    This is a newly-created role within the WEI Legal Department needed to support the growing diversity and complexity of the WEI ecosystem. In this role, the individual will work directly and closely with WEI’s internal teams to identify, manage, & prepare for all manner of risk impacting family offices & ultra-high net worth individuals. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, establishing positive working relationships with internal WEI teams and the broader WEI ecosystem.

    Working directly with the General Counsel, this role will be responsible for developing an organization-wide response to risk across a broad range of topics. The Director of Risk Management will also be responsible for coordinating WEI’s overall risk management, working with existing subject matter experts – both internally and externally – to strategically prepare and plan for risk responses.

    The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with existing WEI associates, the legal team, and the WEI ecosystem to deliver timely and accurate advice. Through this collaboration, the Director of Risk Management will ensure that the family’s goals, values, and interests are advanced and protected at all times.


    Responsibilities

    General responsibilities will include:

    • Identifying, preparing for, and managing enterprise and personal risk generally applicable to family offices and ultra-high net worth individuals (e.g., theft, physical security, cyber security)
    • Leading, implementing, and updating enterprise risk assessment initiatives, resulting in clearly refined and prioritized risk mitigation strategies and an efficient and effective use of risk management resources
    • Monitoring existing and newly-created risk mitigation tactics and other internal controls (both financial and non-financial) to ensure proper functioning and implementation
    • Coordinating existing subject matter experts to provide wholistic strategy and response to both enterprise and personal risk (e.g., cyber, physical security)
    • Conducting research, performing analyses, and advising on the development, implementation, and enhancement of organizational controls and risk management strategies
    • Collaborating with internal clients to ensure broad understanding and effective implementation of risk mitigation strategies and organizational controls
    • Collaborating with other members of the WEI legal team on the drafting and implementation of policies and procedures relating to risk management
    • Providing periodic reporting to executive leadership regarding risk management strategies and organizational controls

    The Director of Risk Management will directly support WEI’s clients by:

    • Effectively anticipating and responding to the needs of the organization; overseeing and ensuring high-quality service delivery
    • Proactively identifying emerging issues and opportunities and providing information, advice, and counsel to help determine the best path forward
    • Identifying and engaging leading external subject matter experts to ensure options and considerations are offered to clients to inform their decision making
    • Effectively implementing decisions made by clients

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

    A successful Director of Risk Management will have the depth and breadth of professional experience, strategic business acumen, and advisory skills to be strong team player in a demanding and fluid family office environment.


    The following qualifications are required:

    • At least 10 years of experience with enterprise risk management initiatives or internal compliance controls
    • Familiarity with family offices, ultra-high net worth individuals, and the structures and risk associated with both
    • Ability to foster strong relationships with clients and key executives and act as counsel in legal matters
    • Good judgment and calm composure particularly in high pressure times
    • Ability to act as a trusted advisor while demonstrating expertise and integrity
    • Trustworthy and able to keep highly sensitive information confidential
    • Able to independently structure and manage workflow and priorities
    • An ability to solve problems with creativity and flexibility often times with imperfect or large amounts of information
    • An ability to understand complex and interconnected processes
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
