Being an Insurance Verification Specialist interviews patients and completes all paperwork necessary to ensure the admitting process is efficient and all hospital and regulatory policies are in compliance. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Insurance Verification Specialist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of Patient Access Services/Patient accounting related tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures. Specifically this position is responsible for verification of all patients insurance for specific patient types (IN, INO, SDS) and determine if pre-authorization is required for their encounter. This position will assist with training staff regarding insurance collection and entry in to Meditech. This position should know and perform all functions of a PAS Representative from assisting patients, registration of accounts to addressing alarm panel monitoring/ responding. Reviewing and editing financial charts for processing a clean claim. Understands and knows how to use the hospital’s electronic health record (Meditech) information system relating to Patient Access Services functions and the relationship to other departments in the hospital. Responsible for understanding and knowing how to use the hospital’s email system, various programs the hospital uses from submitting a work order, to in-house educational training to the various eligibility software programs that the hospital has purchased or that is available via the internet. This position serves as a resource to PAS staff within the department.
