Instrument Technician

Instrument Technicians can start with little to no experience and grow or come in with some of the skills learned in the dental or medical field.
Summary: Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation, linen, and equipment. Aids the Surgical Assistants in monitoring patients while in the recovery unit. Provides additional support services to the Surgical Assistants. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Responsibilities:
- sterilizing surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
- Cleans & launders reusable linen and scrubs
- Monitors and documents parameters to ensure proper high-level disinfection/sterilization.
- Assists in the recovery of patients after in office intravenous sedation and general anesthesia procedures by monitoring patient vitals, wound care needs and reviews post-operative care instructions.
- Properly discharges recovery patients by following the proper guidelines.
- Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Responsible for maintaining office inventory including ordering, receiving and stocking of supplies.
- Monitoring, testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
- Efficiently utilizes Practice software system for patient EMR (electronic medical records) and other practice software systems for patient communication, dictation and treatment planning.
- Participates cooperatively in other aspects of the practice services.
Other Duties:
- Help monitoring and tracking or emergency crash cart medication and supplies.
- Ability to support and to assist the Doctor & Surgical Assistants in an emergency situation.
- Achieve and maintain the following certifications: BLS for Healthcare Providers, Infectious Disease Prevention Standards, OSHA and HIPAA.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent; 4 year degree preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Dental/Medical knowledge/experience a plus although not necessary
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, doctors and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 25-50 pounds
- Must be able to assist the Doctor in an emergency situation
- Repetitive motions- pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting
- Highly motivated and detail oriented
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
- Polite, well-groomed, and professional
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
- Supports other team members to accomplish organizational goals
- Strong leadership qualities and organization skills essential
- Must be able to work full time
- Flexibility to travel to all our locations- Alexandria, Fairfax, Burke, Centreville, Reston, Woodbridge.
Job Type: Full-time
Office Hours: 8:30am-5:00 p.m. Monday- Friday
Salary range: $16.00-$18.00 /hour
