  • Job Title: Swim Instructor Job Location: Lincoln JOB OVERVIEW Responsible for providing safe and effective swimming lessons to all users of ProActive aquatic services. Swimming lessons include private, semi-private and group offerings. Ensures safe and clean environment for all users of the ProActive aquatic facility. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (INFORMATION) 1. Provides safe and effective swim lessons for all ages. 2. Prepares for sessions according to level taught and adjust as needed. 3. Ensures pools, decks, and furniture are clean and all walkways are free of obstructions and help with cleaning duties as needed by Aquatic Supervisor. 4. All duties are to be logged on the Aquatics Checklist. 5. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, swim level reporting and certificates, incident reports, etc.) (PEOPLE) 1. Swim Instructors must have excellent customer service skills in meeting member needs, resolving complaints, and creating programs and policies to facilitate excellent customer relations. 2. Frequent supervision and interaction with children of all ages. 3. Supports and cross-sells all ProActive departments, programs and services. 4. Maintains active involvement in all ProActive special events and programs. 5. Follows direction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals of ProActive. 6. Supervises aquatics areas to ensure members and guests have a safe and clean environment. Identifies unsafe conditions and resolves and/or reports issues immediately. 7. Reports and documents all incidents on incident reporting form. 8. Ensures all lap swimmers, group exercise participants, patients, and other users have access to their respective activities. 9. Resolves conflicts between members immediately and reports incidents to supervisor and manager on duty and logs issues accordingly. (THINGS) 1. Organizes and maintains clean storage area with class equipment. Reports damage or needed equipment. 2. Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, maintains pool facilities, including cleanliness of equipment, pools and decks. 3. Contacts supervisor or maintenance as needed to ensure all aquatic facilities and equipment remain in excellent working condition. 4. Maintain and ensure a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Must be able to tolerate chlorine or other pool chemicals when instructing lessons in pool water. Must have constant near visual acuity with ordinary hearing and speaking skills. Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds in order to complete lifesaving and rescue techniques. Frequent lift and carry of 25 pounds. Requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and handling equipment and supplies. Must tolerate occasional to frequent horizontal reaching with both arms. Frequent grasping of both hands requiring normal grip strength based on national averages. Must tolerate prolonged exposure to high temperature and humidity and to biohazardous materials, including pool chemicals. May be exposed to blood or body fluids. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma preferred or 16 years of age. Previous experience swimming and instructing swim lesson preferred. Must be and maintain current certification as one of the following: Basic Swim Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard training or Aquatic Instructor. CPR/AED certification required prior to hire date. Recertification required prior to expiration.
