Instructor - Psychology teaches courses in the discipline area of psychology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Psychology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Psychology typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     KSA's / Required Qualifications

    • Master’s degree or higher in Developmental Psychology or Human Development, or a master’s degree in Psychology with significant graduate credit in Developmental Psychology or Human Development, or a master’s degree or higher in a closely related discipline and 18 hours of graduate credit in Developmental Psychology or Human Development, and required credentials specified in the VCCS-29
    • College-level teaching experience in Psychology
    • Master’s degree in teaching discipline; or master’s degree in related discipline and 18 hours of graduate credit in teaching discipline;

    or required credentials specified in the VCCS-29

    • Demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Demonstrates ability to facilitate student success in higher education
    • Willingness to assume relevant technological skills required for effective teaching
    • Willingness to assume duties to support the strategic goals of Germanna Community College
    • Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools
    • Demonstrates commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
    • Indication of teaching and service furthering the goal of building a culturally diverse educational environment.

    Additional Considerations

    • College-level experience teaching Lifespan Developmental Psychology.
    • Readiness to teach Lifespan Developmental Psychology in both physical classroom and virtual environments.
    • Maintenance of currency in Psychology, especially Lifespan Developmental Psychology.
    • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
    • Track record of leadership.
    • Experience teaching in an online environment (synchronous / asynchronous) and use of a learning management system such as Canvas.
    • Experience reviewing assessment data to improve student success.
