    SUMMARY

    Teaches functional living and community integration skills to program participants Adapts teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual needs of developmentally disabled program participants.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other

    Duties may be assigned.


    1. Supervises assigned group of program participants and welfare of participants as well as continuity of program day. Treats clients with love, dignity and respect.
    2. Instructs on a daily basis program participants to implement goals specified in implementation plans including all related activities, e.g. 1:1 client instruction, group instructional activities, development of individual implementation plans with the client, and development of daily lesson plans.
    3. Organizes the learning and work activity setting for an assigned group including set up of work stations, development of age appropriate teaching aids, physical organization of instructional equipment, etc.
    4. Plans and promotes activities in the community to allow education, exposure and experience for individuals to occur.
    5. Monitors and reports participant progress on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis per prescribed forms and procedures.
    6. Instructs participants, on a daily basis, in assigned skill areas and work habits on an individualized basis toward the goal of helping individuals achieve personal outcomes.
    7. Coaches program participants to enhance their social skills in order to improve interpersonal skills and individual self-esteem, and develop relationships.
    8. Promotes and educates program participants in regards to their Bill of Rights, the grievance procedure, abuse, and employment options.
    9. Intervenes on a formal and informal basis with participants in shaping maladaptive behavior in more positive directions including implementation of behavior management programs, observation and data taking on behavior and involvement through the Client Review committee in design of behavior programs.
    10. Instructs as needed, specific teaching strategies for areas as assigned in implementation plans for achieving and individual's goals. Develop task analyses, teaching aids, etc., to maximize progress.
    11. Evaluates, on a periodic basis, participants to determine client progress, functional skill levels, and develops goals for the program year.
    12. Participates in the various meetings held as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team by attendance as appropriate at annual staffings, Client Review Committee meetings, Safety Committee meetings, in-services, etc.
    13. Responsible for quality control of subcontracted work completed by program participants in assigned area. Also responsible for accurate reporting of client production (i.e. production sheets, timecards, etc.)
    14. Supervises instructional assistants, as assigned, in the conduct of the daily instructional program and ensures that the assistants are properly supervised and interacting with participants and otherwise carrying out duties in a respective manner. Production sheet totals and data related to goals needs to be validated before submission to supervisory staff.
    15. Supervises and instructs assigned program participants during the lunch period to ensure development of good eating habits and table manners.
    16. Maintains, on a daily basis, a liaison with The Key Training Center social caseworkers, families and other significant persons to ensure that the training program is coordinated and that communication about behavior and progress occurs.
    17. As needed, creates or procures learning materials and equipment geared to each participant's ability and interest.
    18. Provides, as needed, consistent reinforcement to learning, continuous assessment of level of functioning and continuous feedback to participants.
    19. Dispense program participant medications according to physician orders and documents same.
    20. Communicates (verbally and in writing as per procedure) to Vocational Services Director or Program & Services Director and other parties unusual incidents that occur that are directly related to program participants.
    21. Performs other essential duties as required or as necessary.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervises individually assigned Instructor Assistants and program participants.


    QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school graduate or equivalent certification preferred. Minimum one (1) year experience in a direct care capacity, working in developmental disabilities or a related field preferred.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Certification in Behavior Analysis preferred. Must be able to become certified in T.A.C.T. (Therapeutic Alternatives in Crisis Training), First Aid/CPR, and Medication Administration.
