    Culinary Arts Instructor

     

    We are in search of a Chef instructor who supports the school’s mission by preparing adult immigrant students to become productive and civically engaged residents of Washington, DC.  The instructor accomplishes this by providing excellent instruction that supports students’ diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and English language abilities.  The responsibilities of the position include creating materials specific to the career training content, designing a class syllabus, writing daily lesson plans, and effectively performing administrative duties.  The Instructor is expected to engage with multiple forms of data, both formal and informal, to help students advance academically.  Additionally, the role of the Chef Instructor requires the management and assessment of data to inform instruction.  Student tracking forms, daily attendance, student scores, and timecards are examples of administrative responsibilities that extend beyond the time spent teaching in the classroom.

     

     

    Responsibilities: 

     

    • Develop a class syllabus using the school calendar
    • Prepare daily lesson plans with achievable objectives derived from the Culinary Arts Curriculum, available to supervisors
    • Develop effective weekly work plans that tie academic objectives with administrative responsibilities
    • Prepare the classroom or kitchen for daily lessons
    • Deliver high-quality instruction that is differentiated to student needs and driven by data analysis
    • Perform administrative duties effectively and submit deliverables in a timely manner
    • Participate in professional development activities and attend mandatory meetings
    • Foster a classroom environment in line with the school’s values of integrity, respect, perseverance, compassion, inclusivity, and collaboration
    • Maintain grade records and student progress reports
    • Collate class attendance and enter daily attendance into the Maestro SIS. 
    • Implement and enforce classroom policies and procedures
    • Encourage students’ active participation and regular attendance
    • Monitor and evaluate student performance, and adapt instruction accordingly
    • Perform other duties as assigned 


    Qualifications:

    • Minimum bachelor’s degree in culinary arts, Hospitality, or related field required 
    • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate
    • Register as a proctor/instructor with ServSafe or ability to register within 2 months of hire.
    • Minimum 5 years of culinary arts experience and at least 1 year in an administrative position (Chef de Cuisine, Sous- Chef, Executive Chef, etc.
    • Must be flexible and able to make adaptations to meet the academic needs of students with different learning skills and challenges 
    • Works comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Excellent communication skills, be able to explain concepts to others effectively
    • Excellent organizational skills and timely completion of tasks
    • Fluently speak, read, and write in English
    • Ability to fill out requisition forms to order needed ingredients for class and demos.
    • Knowledge and experience using Windows, Google Chrome, Google Docs, and Microsoft Applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
    • Comfortable with online platforms
    • Must be able to provide proof of completed Covid-19 vaccination

    Hourly Ranges from $42.72 per hour to $88.41 per hour based on experience 

     

    Schedule: 

    Part-time 

    Monday – Thursday, 4:30pm – 9:00pm

    Friday – 2 hours
