Frankel Jewish Academy is currently seeking an experienced full-time English teacher. The applicant must be certified with an endorsement in English (BA or BX) or able to obtain certification. An additional endorsement or background in teaching, especially in Social Studies (RX), is desirable but not necessary. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about working with high school students, enthusiastic about the subject matter they teach, and creative in the way that this material is delivered. This full-time teaching position is for the 2023-2024 school year.
FJA is a rigorous college preparatory high school pursuing academic excellence and Jewish literacy. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Lesson Plans and Course Development
- Design and facilitate engaging learning activities.
- Evaluate and revise course curricula / content / materials and methods of instruction for successful learning.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, and examinations.
- Utilize technology to enhance student learning.
- Work with English Department colleagues and other faculty to develop an enriching curriculum that is implemented fully in a manner that is both meaningful and relevant.
Instruction
- Prepare and deliver lectures and assignments to students.
- Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- Evaluate and grade student class work, performance, assignments, papers, and examinations.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Prepare and submit required reports related to instruction.
- Be enthusiastic about continuing to learn and grow in his or her practice; always working to become a better teacher.
- Be enthusiastic about continuing to learn and grow in his/her professional practice.
- Engage in effective technology integration. FJA is a one-to-one technology school.
Communal Responsibilities
- Support the mission of the school.
- Uphold the professional standards at FJA.
- Work closely with the Social Studies department chair.
- Participate in school and community events.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading scholarly articles and participating in professional conferences.
- Participate in our school’s teacher mentoring program.
- Participate in professional development during the year.
- Collaborate with FJA colleagues to address teaching issues and best practices in a professional learning community that includes ongoing mentoring, peer coaching, and study groups.
General Requirements
- A criminal history background check is required of all employees.
- Federal law requires all employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all persons hired to work in the United States.
- Have a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate or the ability to acquire one.
- References will be required; transcripts may be required.
