Edison School of the Arts

Edison School of the Arts is a free public K-8 Performing Arts and Arts Integration School that serves the city of Indianapolis. We currently have approximately 600 students and are located just across White River from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Position Description:

Edison School of the Arts is currently looking for a full time theatre teacher to teach a variety of theatre classes to students in grades K - 8. The role of the theatre teacher is to provide engaging and excellent instruction, as well as, incorporate the elements of drama in all instructional classes. This position requires a strong background in theatre. Edison School of the Arts has a large arts department, where each member of the arts team must be dependable and capable of meeting communicated deadlines, as well as, be flexible and work together as a team. Many performances are required in the evening and during the school day.

Education & Qualifications:

Strongly recommend a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre/Drama or Theatre/Drama Education

Essential Responsibilities:

• Teach daily theatre classes by grade level for students in grades K - 4
• Teach combined middle school electives grades 5 & 6 and grades 7 & 8
• Teach an elementary theatre enrichment performance group of multi-level grades 1 - 4
• Teach a middle school theatre enrichment performance group of multi-level grades 5 - 8
• Theatre Director for the yearly musical and elementary play.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Arrive to work on time daily
• Prepare detailed daily lesson plans
• Use appropriate classroom management skills to maintain control of the class
• Remain in communication with administrators including checking email daily
• Utilize organizational skills to stay prompt in deadlines
• Communicate effectively with parents and students
• Assist in planning and execution of performances
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Provide advance notice if you are unable to attend work
• Dress appropriately for the type of class you are teaching
• Communicate concerns with administrators immediately
• Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of Edison School of the Arts
• Work as a team player with co-workers in all departments
