Instructor - Drama teaches courses in the discipline area of drama. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Drama provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Drama typically reports to a department head. Waynflete seeks an experienced creative drama educator to teach part-time in the lower school beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. A competitive applicant will have experience as a creative drama educator and director for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The ideal candidate will have a sense of humor, artistic vision, excellent communication skills, and a predisposition for innovation and collaboration.
Responsibilities include:
Designing and implementing a creative drama curriculum
Working in partnership with other performing arts educators to craft integrated, cross-disciplinary explorations culminating in informal performances
Creating a class culture based on Responsive Classroom practices and principles of positive behavior and restorative practices
Differentiating instruction in service of equity and inclusion
Monitoring and reporting on student progress
Understanding the continuum of child development
Building effective relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Working closely with the Director of Lower School, Director of Performing Arts, and members of the performing arts team
Additional opportunities might include:
Directing an Afterschool play for students in grades 6-8
Developing and teaching workshops for students in grades 2-5 in the Afterschool fee-based Enrichment Program (under a separate contract)
