    Department Summary

    The Computer Science Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science. Instruction is provided by 16 tenure track faculty, 3 emeritus faculty, and 4 career instructor faculty. The department serves approximately 600 undergraduate and 90 graduate majors, as well as offering a number of general education classes in the discipline. The primary research foci of the tenure track faculty are high-performance computing, data science, networking, and distributed systems with cross-cutting concerns of security and privacy.

    Position Summary

    The University of Oregon Computer Science Department invites applications for a career instructor position. Competitive applicants will be capable of outstanding teaching at all undergraduate levels. Teaching responsibilities for career instructors include courses throughout the computer science curriculum, focusing on lower-division courses, with a typical teaching load of two courses per quarter.

    While the career instructor position is not tenure track, this position is intended to be ongoing with opportunities for growth and promotion. Career instructors are valued members of the CS department who engage in curriculum design, advising, participate in department and UO committees, and faculty governance. Career instructors are eligible for sabbaticals. Terms of this position are governed by the United Academics Collective Bargaining Agreement and unit-level policies.

    Minimum Requirements

    Instructor:
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field

    Senior Instructor I:
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
    • Six years of college-level teaching experience as a primary instructor

    Senior Instructor II:
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
    • Twelve years of college-level teaching experience as a primary instructor

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related field
    • Experience teaching courses with enrollments of 100 or greater
