Instructor - Computer Science jobs in Livonia, MI

Frankel Jewish Academy, as one of the Top STEM schools in the country by Newsweek, is currently seeking a full-time Computer Science/ Technology/Math/Science teacher.Applicants must be prepared to teach a variety of science courses. Applicants should meet one of the following criteria: be certified with an endorsement in Science or Mathematics, hold an advanced degree in a relevant area of Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science and Technology skills (coding, CAD, etc.), or be enrolled in a program which will lead to a Science or Mathematics endorsement. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about working with high school students, enthusiastic about the subject matter they teach, and creative in the way that this material is delivered. This full-time teaching position is for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a 10-month, full-time position.

Salary is $40,000 - $65,000 based on experience.

Ideal prospective candidates:

Have previous high school teaching experience in technology, science, or math.

Have a strong background in computer science, science or math education.

Have a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate or the ability to acquire one.

Work with Science or Math Department colleagues and other faculty to develop an enriching curriculum that is implemented fully in a manner that is both meaningful and relevant.

Design and facilitate engaging lab activities.

Be enthusiastic about continuing to learn and grow in his/her professional practice.

Participate in our school’s teacher mentoring program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with and support teachers, departments, and community in the development of new lab programming.

Collaborate for on-site technical support in a fast-paced high school learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty.

Possess the ability to operate, maintain, and create with hardware and software related to STEAM.

        Areas of knowledge include 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, 3D modeling, coding, robotics, woodworking, etc.

Develop and distribute how-to guides for use by students, staff, and faculty.

Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and acquire new technology skills.

Teach or co-teach STEM-related classes and/or lessons in support of otherclasses/subjects

Manage the training, use, and safety of STEM lab production equipment, software, and facilities by staff, students, volunteers, interns, and guests

Provide first and second level technical support for STEM lab hardware andsoftware. Engage and manage vendor support as needed

Serve as a liaison with internal staff to support educational initiatives and goals

Participate as a team member in assigned working groups and project teams as assigned

Maintain a safe STEM lab environment including but not limited to performing and tracking routine equipment maintenance, ensure the STEM lab is clean, organized, and equipment and consumables are regularly inventoried

Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with external schools and organizations to augment STEM lab resources and experiences for academy students

Provide additional extended STEM lab hours as scheduled by students or teachers and academy events.

Support in-house production tasks as assigned using STEM lab equipment and materials

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in the field of Mathematics, the Sciences, or Computer Science required

Teacher certification or ability to become certified in Math (EX) or a Science (DC, DE, DI, DP, or DX)

Ability to efficiently problem solve and multitask to complete tasks

Strong interpersonal skills

Exceptional project management and execution skills with the ability to think critically

Ability to work independently and within a team

Effective verbal and non-verbal communications skills

Experience working with diverse learners

Adherence to the highest level of professionalism by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and maturity
