Instructor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer and information sciences. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     ABOUT THE POSITON
    The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals.     Minimum Qualifications
     
    1. Master's in computer science or computer engineering; OR,
    2. Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering; OR,
    3. Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR,
    4. Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR,
    5. Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems; OR,
    6. Hold a valid credential to teach in the discipline; OR,
    7. The equivalent; AND,
    8. Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
    (NOTE:Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified, for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.)
     
    Desirable Qualifications
     
    1.  Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
    2.   Expertise in field of course(s) to be taught.
    3.   Proficiency in Online Instruction.

    REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS
    • A Long Beach Community College District application.
    • A current resume.
    • A list of three references, including current addresses and telephone numbers of both colleagues and supervisors.
    • ALL graduate and undergraduate transcriptsshowing school name, all college coursework, degree title and conferral date. This includes transcripts for any and all for the following degrees, AA/AS BA/BS, MA/MS and above (Ed.D, Ph,D, etc.) and courses used for transfer credit. Transcripts can be official or unofficial and must be submitted as an attachment. The conferral date must be on or before the application deadline in order to meet Minimum Qualifications.
    • Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES).
    • Applicants who do not meet the Statewide Minimum Qualifications for this discipline verbatim are required to submit a Supplemental Equivalency Application
