Professor Lei Pan's research group at Michigan Technological University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research associate to advance both science and engineering in the field of mineral processing and metallurgy of primary ores and recycling of Li-ion batteries. This position is supported by the Department of Energy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
|
Perform various laboratory-scale experiments including froth flotation, gravity separation, crushing, milling, leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction, ion exchange, and crystallization; preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; supervising and collaborating with graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
|
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field. The degree must have been earned within 72 months prior to the beginning of the appointment.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)
|
Three (3) years of research experience in at least three (3) of the following research areas; froth flotation, gravity separation, crushing, milling, leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction, ion exchange, and crystallization.
Experience in publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

|
Knowledge in beneficiation and chemical separation of battery metal ores and spent Li-ion batteries.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
|
The work environment is that of a typical lab or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
