    Position Description:
    POSITION SUMMARY

    This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as a Biology Instructor in the Division of Math, Science, and Engineering located at Evergreen Valley College. The position is to teach a full load of the biological science courses offered by Evergreen Valley College. The teaching assignment will primarily be in general biology lecture and lab courses. Each semester there are over a dozen sections of this course as it meets graduation requirements and a pre-requisite for anatomy.

    Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

    This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

    2. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

    3. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

    4. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

    5. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

    6. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

    7. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

    8. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

    9. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

    10. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Required Qualifications:
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    1. Masters in any Biological Science

    OR

    Bachelors in any Biological Science AND Masters in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Marine Science

    OR *The Equivalent

    Desired Qualifications:
    Desired Qualifications:

    1. Excellent academic background in Biology with experience teaching General Biology and majors courses.

    2. Demonstrated experience with current pedagogy and teaching practices, including use of technology, online teaching, and familiarity with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.

    3. Prior teaching experience with Biology students from diverse backgrounds at the community college or four-year college level, including hands-on laboratory work.

    4. Biological research, work and/or grant writing experience.

    5. Evidence of professional development in current science education best practices.

    6. Experience in assessing instructional practices to inform ongoing improvement.

    7. Familiarity with successful course curriculum development, and commitment to working with colleagues from other disciplines using interdisciplinary strategies to develop courses and programs to enhance student learning.

    8. Willingness to share in departmental duties including, but not limited to, data gathering/reporting, participation on hiring committees, adjunct faculty mentorship/training, and strategic planning.

    9. Demonstrates experience with SLO assessment, desire to assist with department program review and familiarity with the California Community College Guided Pathways Initiative.

    10. Available to serve the broader campus community (e.g. committee involvement, faculty leadership, student clubs).

    11. Experience in biological field research and enthusiasm to teach Natural Science field trips throughout the state.

    12. Adheres to CDC recommendations for COVID-19 and knowledge of SJECCD pandemic guidelines for teaching in the district.

    13. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

      Salary Range:
      $81,767 to $112,242 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month Academic Salary Schedule 2021-2022); Maximum Salary Potential $145,632. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
