Instructional Designer and Technology

  • OB PURPOSE:

    The Instructional Designer and Technologies (IDT) is responsible for collaborating in the creation of innovative and engaging online courses using current instructional design methodologies. The IDT will design and recommend custom multimedia solutions and course element as well as train and coach faculty and staff on best practices for online course design; implement Quality Matters (QM) standards in all online and hybrid/blended courses; QM certify online and hybrid/blended courses and training, enhance and/or recommend or revise course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices; collaborate with faculty with initial needs' assessment and analysis; author original content and modify existing materials in cooperation with faculty; create design documents such as course outlines, storyboards, design mock-ups, etc. to guide the course development process; consult in the design and successful assessments and evaluation methods; and provide training and support for learning technologies.

    This position description indicates, in general, the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The IDT should be able to teach bachelors' level online courses.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Partner with faculty, staff, and students to set school strategies for creating distinctive and innovative educational experiences using technology both inside and outside the classroom.
    • Maintain active connections with peer and industry partners to stay apprised of new and emerging academic technologies in a way that directly informs innovation and investments in education. Build relationships with curricular leadership and teaching faculty to support and further develop an institutional vision for educational technologies.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Matters (QM) standards.
    • Implement Quality Matters (QM) rubrics and standards for all online and hybrid/blended courses.
    • Provide leadership for, and be responsible for, implementing technology that helps develop innovative course content and new teaching and learning experiences.
    • Provide leadership for the deployment of tools, solutions, and platforms needed for these distinctive educational experiences.
    • Collaborate with departments on existing and/or needed investments to technology and related staffing to develop a comprehensive University-wide model for technology base-line and staffing.
    • Promote and support teaching and learning innovations at NTU main and site locations; actively serve as an advisor to faculty, students, and staff on best practices for integrating technology into teaching and learning and propose solutions for the same.
    • Provide one-to-one user support for instructional technologies (e.g., consultations, help tickets, etc).
    • Help create and maintain communication channels for campus-wide discussions of learning technologies.
    • General awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with and collaborate with diverse populations across the institution's faculty, administrators and students.
    • Advanced level of computer hardware and software technical capacity.
    • Hands-on, inspirational leader.

    SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervises students during laboratory work.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    • A bachelor's degree with 18 credits toward a master's degree in addition to a minimum of five years' experience in instructional design or a master's degree in a related field with two years' experience is required.
    • Prior experience in online course design at a higher education institution is preferred.
    • Prior expereicne with Higher Learning Commission distance education requirements.
    • Familarity with National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) and implenmnetation.
    • Familarity with the federal distance education regulations and state authorizztions.
    • Understanding of Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) distanced education guildines and requirements.
    • Expereince training faculty members engaged in online learning includes consideration of issues of academic integrity, including ways to reduce cheating.
    • Two to five years of prior experience in instructional technology.
    • Experience teaching online courses in a university setting.
    • Prior theological higher education experience is important with a proven record and ability to support and communicate with faculty, staff, and students about educational technology.
    • Experience with Collaberate, Zoom, Google Hangouts, GoTo Meetings, and other virtual tools.
    • Experience with a variety of Learning Management Platforms (LMS) systems inlcuding Blackboard Ultra.
    • Professional excellence, community service and/or publication.
    • Valid and clean state driver's license.
    • Must be able to pass a background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    • Master's degree in a related field with two years' experience.
    • Prior experience in online course design at a higher education institution is preferred.
    • Two to five years of prior experience in instructional technology.
    • Prior theological higher education experience is important with a proven record and ability to support and communicate with faculty, staff, and students about educational technology.
    • Experience teaching courses in a university setting.
    • Experience with the Jenzabar J1/EX Student Information System.
    • Professional excellence, community service and/or publication.
    • Valid and clean state driver's license.
    • Must be able to pass a background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.

    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.
