Institutional Research Director directs and oversees institutional research and studies for a university/college. Designs and leads institutional research studies evaluating the effectiveness of the organization's programs and policies. Being an Institutional Research Director manages data collection and analysis and oversees the formulation of research reports. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Institutional Research Director typically reports to a head of a department. The Institutional Research Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Summary:
    The Director, Institutional & Individual Giving is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of gifts resulting in significant contributions to the University. To accomplish this, the Director, Institutional and Individual Giving will build relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations capable of making gifts at leadership levels.

    Education/Experience:
    Bachelors degree plus five years of progressive development experience with outstanding writing skills and experience in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and closure of major gifts, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in educational fundraising and a working knowledge of the Maryland philanthropic community are preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
    • Knowledge of philanthropy.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present and deliver information effectively; and experience working with highly confidential information
    • Analytical and research skills
    • Ability and a proven track-record of developing constituent relationships
    • Must have an appreciation for the mission of a private, career-focused liberal arts university and be interested in working in an extremely collaborative, team-oriented setting.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to use social media, direct mail, and other marketing media to cultivate and solicit donors.
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to act independently yet function as a member of a team.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.



    Physical Requirements:
    Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to lifting and carrying printed materials. Close visual acuity to review lists of data in both print and electronic form. Frequent typing using the keyboard. Climbing stairs, walking between campus buildings and driving to appointments.

    Essential Functions:
    • Manage a defined portfolio of 125-150 prospects. Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Research grant-making organizations, analyze, and identify potential funding sources for specific projects, services, and programs.
    • Compile, write, and edit grant applications and other documents exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
    • Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
    • Gather information through interviews and other means in order to easily grasp the concept of a project, service or program for which funding is sought as defined by the person responsible for carrying it out.
    • Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project, service or program.
    • Serve as a development writer for the Office of University Advancement, to help produce campaign communications materials, contribute to the Universitys quarterly magazine, and assist with other projects/writing assignments as needed.
