Institutional Research Director - Assistant assists in directing and overseeing institutional research for a university/college. Designs and leads institutional research studies evaluating the effectiveness of the organization's programs and policies. Being an Institutional Research Director - Assistant manages data collection and analysis and oversees the formulation of research reports. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Institutional Research Director - Assistant typically reports to Institutional Research Director. The Institutional Research Director - Assistant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Research Assistant supports our agronomic research team in the fields in Iowa and surrounding states. Planting, note taking, sampling, equipment maintenance, plot maintenance, hand pollination and harvest are primary duties of the Research Assistant.
Requirements:
- Experience or basic education in production agriculture. (Higher education may still apply for greater responsibility or other opportunities)
- Available to travel overnight during planting, harvest and occasionally during the summer
- Able to work 60-70 hours/week during planting and harvest
- Walk extended distances in field for note taking and lift and carry 40 lbs
- Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement and clean driving record preferred, not required
Specific Duties:
- Seed packaging and sorting
- Planting (tractor operation, dumping packets, staking fields and/or shuffling boxes)
- Stand Counting
- In-season note taking
- Plant and root samples
- Equipment maintenance
- Hand pollinating in breeding nursery
- Hand harvest nursery
- Harvest (note taking and/or equipment operation)
Additional Details:
Research Assistant with experience and leadership abilities may lead small crews or complete special protocols.
Salary depends on background and skills. Merit based bonus determined by attendance, job completion and enthusiasm. Travel expenses covered.
This is a seasonal position with opportunities to return next year. Temporary positions sometimes lead to full-time employment.
