Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications for Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), the Assistant Director of Institutional Internal Communications Develops and implements strategic internal communications plans to inform, educate, and support the engagement of JHM faculty and staff about institutional priorities and initiatives; promote research and related activities that support and strengthen JHM's Strategic Plan.
Measures, tracks, and reports on the results of internal campaigns. Manages internal communications team members. Manages the JHM intranet and manager communications. Identifies stories, news, and other communications needs. Seeks new and innovative approaches to advance communication with internal audiences and designs and implements communications systems and process improvements across JHM. Works closely with the Director of Strategic Communications to develop comprehensive internal communications plans with measurable goals focused on strengthening, protecting, and maintaining a consistent image for Johns Hopkins Medicine. The Director actively monitors, manages, and proactively addresses institutional issues and crises. Leads integration of information across M&C divisions. Supports the director in developing the guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, writing or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience:
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Ability to meet clients' communications needs across JHM by providing various communications strategies and tactics. Ability to work with leadership to effectively manage internal communications projects. A clear understanding of employee and crisis communications. Ability to successfully manage a wide array of projects simultaneously. Conceive, develop, and implement ideas for communicating employee initiatives. Demonstrate sound judgment in selecting information to be shared and which vehicles to communicate information with the best track record in developing, managing, and expanding communications programs and vehicles. Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, and mentoring writers-an effective and efficient communicator who can assess and understand situations quickly and clearly. A high level of interpersonal and organizational skills is required to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people within and outside of JHM. As a representative of JHM, presents a professional and polished image.
