    Summary:
    The Director of Institutional Research directs and coordinates the unit's responsibility for mandatory institutional reporting.

    Duties & Responsibilities:


    • Direct responses to all mandatory, cyclical, grant-related and ad hoc requests for data from, or being submitted to, external sources, including but not limited to federal and state agencies, accrediting bodies, commercial entities and peer universities. Responsible for the timely submission of IPEDS data; serve as the content expert for the IPEDS system; assist others in understanding the scope and type of data available. Responsible for the submission of the Unit Cost Study and the Illinois Higher Education Information System (IHEIS) data to the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Assist with completion of select RAMP tables.
    • Direct the collection, analysis, and dissemination of trend data regarding the university in relation to its peer and aspirational institutions; responsible for providing data required for institutional and programmatic accreditation, program reviews, and annual reports.
    • Support the administration and analysis of surveys, including the Outcomes Survey, the National Survey of Student Engagement, the Student Satisfaction Inventory and the Priorities Survey for Online Learners. Take the lead on an array of US News & World Report Surveys and ensure accuracy and a timely response.
    • Collaborate with Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment staff members.
    • Ad hoc data requests.
    • Ensure that institutional data collection and reporting processes are reliable, valid and ethical.
    • Produce annual data for publication on the university’s website, including but not limited to the Institutional Research Data Book, Common Data Set and Retention and Graduation Rates.
    • Represent the university at system-wide meetings related to the reporting of institutional data. Respond to data requests from UA, including Academic Unit Review.
    • Serve as administrative codebook data steward. Work with academic codebook steward, UA, and the UIS registrar regarding structural issues.
    • Coordinate the work of and provide support to staff employed within the Office of Institutional Research.

    Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline; Five or more years work experience in an institutional research or analytics related context, having had a progression of positions with increasing responsibility for data analytics, and using data in higher education.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Ph.D.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement in performance of job duties; Ability to assign, monitor, and review the work of others; Expertise in statistical analysis, the use of statistical/analytical software applications, data visualization, and Microsoft Office; Knowledge of external data sets, such as IPEDS and the National Student Clearinghouse; Extraordinary attention to detail; Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, troubleshoot, think creatively, and resolve conflicts; Knowledge of emerging technologies relating to data collection, querying, visualization and reporting. Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI product; Familiarity with the BANNER system; Experience training and managing staff; Proven project management, organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving and time-management skills; and, In depth knowledge of University administrative organization, policies, procedures, and practices for institutional research-oriented roles.
