    Job Summary:
    This Research Assistant position offers an exciting opportunity to join an integrated and innovative academic research department focused on pharmacology and physiology. The successful candidate will assist faculty, students, and post-doctoral researchers in conducting cutting edge research utilizing laboratory techniques that range from molecular biology to animal behavior.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    100% Research:
    1. Conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments (40% total)
     *Conducts animal research: Behavioral/physiological testing, surgery, track/organize data, monitor animals in lab facility (10%).
     *Conducts cell culture/in vitro studies: Using sterile techniques, be able to grow and maintain cell cultures, then perform in vitro experimentation on the cultures (30%).
    2. Organizing, maintaining, and analyzing data (20%)
    3. Responsible for day-to-day operations: Clean lab, order supplies/tracking, making solutions, summarize assays (20%).
    4. Mentoring graduate, undergraduate, and medical student researchers (20%)

    Environmental Hazards:
    Possible exposure to hazardous material, hot and cold, blood borne pathogens.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Position Qualifications:

    Requirements:
    - Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, or in a related field with specialized training, or equivalent experience.
    - Experience in in vitro and/or in vivo techniques (e.g., cell culture, immunoblotting, rodent behavior, etc.)

    Preferred: 
    - Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, or in a related field with specialized training, or equivalent experience.

    Skills. Proficiencies and Knowledge:
    - Familiarity with laboratory practice and safety; familiarity of experimental design 
    - Good organizational and analytical skills 
    - Good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with faculty, post-docs, and students
    - Experience with Excel, Word, or statistical software programs
