Inservice Training Director directs the overall design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Establishes a skill assessment process to collect input and identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Inservice Training Director consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Ensures curricula designs support defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Inservice Training Director develops standards and methodology to prepare high-quality outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Oversees and approves the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes the appropriate metrics to use for the evaluation of training effectiveness. Analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs and budgets. Evaluates and selects vendors to provide support, training materials, or to conduct training sessions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a senior director. The Inservice Training Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports UCSC students to maintain or improve their general well-being by providing a broad range of counseling, psychiatric services, consultation and outreach services.

    Other SHS departments include the primary care and same-day care, with the support of on-site radiology, a COLA-accredited high complexity clinical laboratory and campus pharmacy; Student Health Outreach and Promotion (SHOP), home of the Condom Co-op; CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education) the advocacy and prevention education office that supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence; and Student Insurance Programs. Student Health Services welcomes staff with interest and experience in working with students with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and gender identities.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Assistant Training Director reports to the Senior Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and is responsible for the administration, planning and evaluation of American Psychological Services (APA) Doctoral Internship Program. The Assistant Training Director is also responsible for providing direct psychological services to UCSC students and the UCSC community.

    The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to support UCSC students, both graduate and undergraduate, in maintaining or improving their general well-being by providing a broad range of counseling, psychiatric services, consultation and outreach services and programs to the campus community.

    The Assistant Training Director is held to the highest ethical standards and legal mandates for mental health professionals in the state of California. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Training Director to provide management that supports the mission of CAPS.

    JOB DUTIES

    50% - Administration, Supervision
    • Responsible for general administration of the American Psychological Association (APA) Doctoral Internship Program.
    • Keeps abreast and responds to evolving changes to APA criteria, revising the training program and preparing the annual APA report.
    • Responsible for managing accreditation reviews including the APA self-study and site visit.
    • Designs, coordinates and schedules all Doctoral Intern training seminars to meet and comply with accreditation standards for APA Doctoral Internships.
    • Conducts or assigns the weekly Doctoral Intern Seminar, Crisis Seminar, and Outreach and Consultation seminar.
    • Recruits, selects, trains, assigns and reviews the work of Doctoral Interns; Actively supports and implements the UCSC Affirmative Action Program by demonstrating efforts to diversify staff in all selection and promotional opportunities.
    • Provides individual and group clinical supervision for trainees.
    • Provides direction to Doctoral Interns according to established policies and management guidance.
    • Monitors and coordinates the training progress of Doctoral Interns; Identifies competency problems and responds accordingly consistent with APA standards and UCSC policies and procedures.
    • Prepares quarterly Doctoral Intern evaluations and responds to reference and credentialing requests in a timely manner.
    • Liaison with the home programs of doctoral interns to provide quarterly updates on achievement of APA competencies.
    • Collaborates on the agenda for the monthly Training Committee meetings.
    • Participates in the CAPS Management Committee as needed to discuss policy and procedural issues.
    • Participates in management review of Peer Review and Satisfaction Surveys.
    • Participates in performance improvement and management review efforts and initiatives for the unit.
    • Other duties, as assigned.

    30% - Direct Service
    • Provides direct clinical services including initial consultation, case management, individual and group therapy, crisis assessment and intervention, and after hours on call as needed.
    • Provides consultation, outreach, prevention, and educational services to the campus community.
    • Consults with CAPS staff, Psychiatry staff, Student Health Center staff, and off-campus mental health professionals, social agencies, and community resources regarding student mental health issues.
    • All licensed staff will provide coordination and consultation for the After Hours Crisis Services as scheduled.
    • Develops and implements outreach programs, trainings, and class presentations.
    • Functions as a community psychologist and provides consultation to faculty, staff, residential life staff, and other units on campus regarding student concerns (e.g. identity development, interpersonal issues, values clarification and goal setting, and enhancing the psychological well-being of the campus community).
    • Other duties, as assigned.

    20% - Other Responsibilities
    • Participates regularly in a cooperative and professional manner in efforts to maintain and upgrade the quality of services of the CAPS unit by participating in CAPS committees and collaborating with other CAPS psychotherapists, college administrators and staff, and faculty in program development, committee work, and consultation.
    • Maintains professional relationships with public and private mental health agencies as well as with private practice providers who accept referrals from Counseling and Psychological Services.
    • Promotes a safe and healthy workplace and effectively responds to injuries that occur.
    • Other duties, as assigned.


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Valid licensure, in good standing, as a Psychologist.*
    • Doctoral degree required from an APA accredited Clinical or Counseling Psychology program and completion of an APA accredited internship.
    • Three years of licensed experience training and providing supervision to psychology graduate students.
    • Demonstrated experience and skills working collaboratively and consulting with a wide range of mental-health care providers (including psychologists, LMFT's, LCSW's, doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, nurse practitioners and psychiatrists), health care providers, University personnel, and community resources regarding the mental-health issues of university students.
    • Experience providing campus outreach programs, trainings, workshops, and community interventions.
    • Experience facilitating psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills with a range of behavioral health and counseling methods, crisis interventions, and empirically supported interventions and treatment.
    • Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, and experience working with high acuity students with complex mental health needs.
    • Demonstrated expertise with developmental issues of late adolescence.
    • Demonstrated multicultural experience, skills and expertise providing culturally competent and trauma informed services to a diverse client population.
    • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues in the delivery of psychological services.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to interact and perform the duties of the job in a professional manner.
    • Ability to be an effective team member.
    • Demonstrated strong planning and organizational skills.

    • Out of State licensed psychologists are required to acquire California licensure within 180 days from either submitting the application or beginning California residency, whichever occurs first


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Demonstrated experience and skills in coordinating and administering an APA accredited internship program in a University Counseling Center.
    • Experience and interest in behavioral health interventions.
    • Three years of recent clinical experience in a University Counseling Center which may include experience as a trainee in a University Counseling Center.


    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    • Selected Candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check and a pre-hire credentialing check prior to formal job offer.
    • Must complete HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) Training within 30 days of hire.
    • Must complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years.
    • Will be required to comply with current Student Health Center employee health safety requirements for health care workers as defined by state and federal regulatory agencies; current health safety requirements to be discussed during interview.
    • If selected candidate engages in telehealth visits, they must be able to work remotely from a home office and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
    • Job will require occasional working of non-traditional hours.
