The Diocese of Lansing is accepting applications for a Director of Information Technology. We are looking for a faith-filled Catholic who has a desire to serve the mission of the Church by sharing his or her gifts, talents, and experience in computer science. The Director of Information Technology serving the Diocese of Lansing leads key infrastructure, data management, application and business intelligence initiatives that support the staff of the Chancery, Tribunal, Cemeteries, and Catholic Foundation. The position also advises constituents in our 72 parishes, 34 schools, and 5 agencies. The IT Director works with other department leaders to deliver projects aligned with the diocesan strategic plan. The Information Technology department works in Microsoft Office 365 and OSX platforms, utilizes cloud-based content delivery, storage and SaaS, and supports cyber security policies and procedures. The IT Director is accountable for all aspects of the computing environments including architecture, custom development, availability, data integrity, compliance, access, security, standards, policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Information Technology Leadership
- Oversee the development and maintenance of an IT Strategic Plan on an annual basis ensuring its coherence with the overall diocesan strategic plan. Must incorporate an IT vision for parishes, schools, and agencies in the diocese.
- Serve as a resource for parishes, schools and agencies providing IT recommendations, assisting with establishing service contracts, and coordinate training as needed.
- Lead and supervise the IT staff. Ensure that requests for assistance are addressed in a timely manner.
- Conduct performance appraisals for IT staff.
- Hold regular departmental meetings to review strategic goals and work to provide growth paths for IT team members.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, and providing appropriate training, and continuing education for IT team members.
- Administer the IT department budget.
- Serve on diocesan planning and policy-making committees as requested.
- Collaborate with the Communications department on the design and development of diocesan internal and external websites.
Systems Oversite
- Establish and maintain infrastructure to support and guide departments in their technology needs.
- Oversee the information technology used by staff. Provide a vision for IT use, maintenance and staff training for maximum efficiency in day-to-day operations. Develop a roadmap for future upgrades and administration.
- Identify emerging information technologies that would benefit the diocesan central offices and the parishes, schools, and agencies we support.
- Ensure that the diocese, and all supported organizations, stay current and compliant with respect to IT security and software.
- Ensure that all projects assigned are completed within the designated timeframe and budget.
- Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems, databases, and software packages.
- Assess new technologies and the feasibility of system enhancements to determine potential value for the diocese and all supported organizations.
- Supervise the ordering, acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software within budget constraints.
- Oversee the management of diocesan owned devices (laptops, cell phones, etc.)
- Manage all outside vendor relationships; serve as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of RFPs, bids, contracts, agreements, and other major vendor interactions.
- Collaborate with Communications and other diocesan departments on the implementation of their web presence in reference to the diocesan intranet, public website, and other social media sites.
- Develop, oversee and maintain cybersecurity policies for the diocese.
Systems Operations and Maintenance
- Oversee the integrity and continual operation of the diocesan network including the inter- and intra-building wiring plant and wireless networks.
- Ensure the continual functioning of mission-critical operations.
- Maintain security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment.
- Develop, review, and certify all backup and disaster-recovery procedures and plans.
- Oversee IT related aspects of all diocesan construction and renovation projects
Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, computer engineering, or related field. Three to five years of management/leadership experience required.

- Documented working experience with Microsoft environments including Office 365, Windows, SQL Server, Exchange, Internet Information Services (IIS) and other applications; experience with Microsoft Windows configuration, installation, maintenance, support and the troubleshooting of TCP/IP networks supporting VoIP telephony, microcomputers and other systems; system development, complex project management, knowledge of network hardware, client/server technology, and Internet/intranets.
