    Responsibilities

    The Market Director of Security is responsible to organize, implement, and oversee the physical security program throughout the market including the development and implementation of effective Security Policies and Procedures and maintain compliance with JCAHO Standards for multiple healthcare facilities. The Market Director of Safety & Security is also responsible for Uniform Guard Operations and Management, assisting in emergency management and contingency planning, coordinating security operations or activities with law enforcement and other agencies, and responding to emergencies.  The Market Director of Safety & Security is also responsible for leading the Workplace Violence Program for the market. 

    Essential Key Job Responsibilities

    Compellingly communicate to staff the critical role they play in an effective security program.

    1. Facilitate organizational change initiatives, leading and supporting staff in adapting to a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
    2. Facilitate development and achievement of professional & personal goals for self and staff.
    3. Ensure employees receive information needed to perform jobs including feedback to enhance performance and customer satisfaction
    4. Proactively address performance issues when indicated and administer policies, decisions, & disciplinary actions with consistency.
    5. Align department goals and manage department resources and budgets to meet strategic objectives.
    6. Collect, analyze, evaluate and recommend action based on security data to determine security needs and/or risks, improves processes, and implements changes to achieve security program goals. 
    7. Conduct investigations, maintain records, and write / review incident reports.
    8. Train security supervisors, hospital staff, and leadership on security policy and procedure.
    9. Ensure quality initial and in-service training of Uniform Security Staff.
    10. Participate with internal and external committees and work groups regarding safety and emergency preparedness.
    11. Act as the liaison with a variety of local, state and federal emergency response agencies to maintain an active role in the community in the development and planning processes with regard to safety and emergency management.
    12. Participate in the EOC / Safety meetings and EOC workgroup and others ad hoc.
    13. Provide trend reports related to safety and emergency management for the purpose of improving systems and processes to the EOC / Safety Committee structure on a quarterly basis.
    14. Initiate measures to correct unsafe conditions found.  If immediate corrective action is not possible, expeditiously report those to the EOC Safety Committee and Administration.
    15. Work closely with the Patient Safety Officer/Director of Accreditation to ensure consistent education for associates, standards are met and best practices are shared.
    16. Manage, Project and budget for the security department and plan for future security needs of each campus.
    17. Develop and maintain a positive image of the Security Department.
    18. Display effective Security Risk Analysis skills.
    19. Communicate effectively to Senior Leaders.
    20. Maintain security incident data reporting and analysis.
    21. Develop and maintain Security Education and Awareness Programs.
    22. Ensure effective staff management and leadership skills.
    23. Continue security best practices consistent with the needs and culture of the organization.
    24. Lead the Workplace Violence Program for the Market.
    25. Directs and leads activities of assigned emergency management functions.

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience in the security field     

    Required Education for Staff Job Levels

    Bachelor’s degree in business, criminal justice, emergency management, safety administration, or a combination of education and/or job related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.  

    Required Licensure and Certifications

    Security related training and professional affiliation.  

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Must have minimum of five years in Security or Law enforcement, 

    Healthcare Security experience preferred

    A minimum of three years of management experience in a responsible

    charge position.

    Knowledgeable of applicable laws, codes, state and regulatory

    requirements and NFPA / TJC regulations relating to health care

    Facilities.

    Must be knowledgeable of equipment specifications and inspection

    procedures.

    Demonstrated expertise in Hospital Incident Command System 

    management required.

    Workplace violence training within 6 months of employment.  

    Completion of National Incident Management Training (NIMS) compliant ICS100

    ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800 courses within 6 months of employment.

    PREFERRED Qualifications

    Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP) or other designation preferred. 

    Knowledgeable of computers and applicable software.

    Have a demonstrated understanding of Security specific and general

    Hospital policies and procedures.

    Knowledge of regulatory agency regulations and mandates.

    The ability to evaluate and articulate security risk to management Team.

    Have a demonstrated understanding of investigative procedures.

    Ability to develop and implement a variety of security risk mitigation

    strategies.
