Information Security Director establishes and administers the overall strategies and procedures for the information security function. Develops and implements information security and disaster recovery programs in accordance with organizational information security standards. Being an Information Security Director evaluates information risk on a regular time schedule and promotes information security awareness within the organization. Requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Information Security Director typically reports to top management. The Information Security Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Information Security Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Warren Wilson College is excited to announce a call for applicants for our Director of Information Technology. This position provides leadership and guidance in all areas of information technology to college administration, and directs the IT department. This position works with college leaders to prioritize needs and projects to enhance operations and efficiency, the allocation of resources to technology needs, and provides technical expertise in the areas of planning, information security and incident response, and possesses a demonstrated understanding of the role of technology in the evolution of the college.

    Candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field prior with supervisory experience are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 12-month position. This position may be asked to respond during non-traditional work hours with occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
    • Two years’ of experience working in an information and/or technical management concentrating on information technology systems and operations
    • Evidence of prior experience in deploying and maintaining secure enterprise systems in a complex environment.
    • Demonstrated ability of the development of strategic and operational plans, and development of project goals and objectives.
    • Demonstrated experience with networking, systems, applications, security, business continuity and disaster recovery.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise a highly technical staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor contracts and procurement processes as well as evaluate proposals for technology information services.
    • Demonstrated ability to be a business partner to departments and individuals in the assessment and development of technology systems and solutions working with a wide range of units

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, information systems or similar.
    • Prior experience with Jenzabar specifically supporting the backend.
    • Experience with instructional technology in a college environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    STRATEGIC AND TACTICAL RESPONSIBILITY

    • Overall technology strategy & leverage, project management, and cost containment
    • Business process analysis and workflows - significant participation in cross functional teams
    • Oversee service partnerships & software vendors
    • Technology lifecycle planning: asset inventory, refresh scheduling, account maintenance
    • Monitor and respond to alerts & outages 24/7
    • Oversight of helpdesk ticket caseload and provides guidance as necessary for support and/or complex problem-solving.
    • Campus communications particularly systems maintenance and outages
    • Policy/Planning/Procedures such as Information Security & Resource Use, Change Management, Technology Refresh, Incident Response & Disaster Recovery, etc.
    • Works to ensure compliance as it relates to cybersecurity of data as required by outside federal agencies or laws

    DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

    • Six direct reports roughly divided into functional areas of Systems, Data & Reporting (including Institutional Research), User Services;
    • Regular all-staff meetings, 1:1s, and individual focus sessions on Security, Data, Frontline ops
    • Manage OpEx and Capital IT budget; Approval for all campus technology purchases
    • Requisition/execution of department purchases, fleet hardware, software agreements, monthly/annual subscriptions, warranty
    • Develop or direct relevant community training, mock phishing campaigns, communications, and departmental website content

    TECHNICAL PURVIEW

    Datacenter: servers, virtualization, storage, backup, resiliency (Dell, VMWare, Veeam, Synology)

    Network: core, wired, wireless, & onboarding (Cisco, Fortigate, Ruckus, Cloudpath)

    ERP/SIS, Data, & Reporting - (Jenzabar One Desktop, JICS Intranet, Informer, Visualizations)

    Software platforms: contracts, maintenance, integration, licensing (40 systems to varying degrees; examples: Moodle LMS, Google Workspace, Microsoft O365, Formstack, etc.)

    Cybersecurity - Cloudflare, Fortigate, Crowdstrike, Cyberrisk Aware)

    Classroom Technology & A/V - (Extron, Dell IFP, Smartboards, Logitech)

    Workstations, Phones, Printing - (InTune MDM, FOG Deployment, Dell Latitude, Apple Macbook, Papercut printserver, RingCentral VoIP)
