Additionally, Infection Control Coordinator evaluates sterilization and disinfection methods and recommends changes as necessary. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Coordinator contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. The Acute Care Facility Infection Preventionist is responsible for developing and implementing infection prevention policies and protocols, conducting regular assessments to identify potential infection risks, and providing education and training on infection control measures. Further responsibilities include collaborating with healthcare professionals to monitor and managing outbreaks as well as staying abreast on the latest infection control guidelines and best practices.
The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree (in nursing, microbiology, or related field) and Certification in Infection Control (CIC) highly preferred (or be willing to take within 1-2 years of hire). Also, 2-5 yrs of previous hospital experience in infection prevention is required as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. Of importance, RN is NOT required but is preferred.
