Infection Control Coordinator monitors and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and contain outbreak. Reviews sterilization and disinfection techniques and recommends changes as needed. Being an Infection Control Coordinator provides related education to staff. Prepares simple cultures as needed for environmental and individual studies. Additionally, Infection Control Coordinator evaluates sterilization and disinfection methods and recommends changes as necessary. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Infection Control Coordinator contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     General Summary: The Special Procedures Nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and provides nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process to facilitate the patient’s progression toward optimal health. The Special Procedures Nurse provides, directs and guides patient/family teaching to prepare the patient for special procedures. The Special Procedures Nurse is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.

    Patient Population: Has contact with patients in a clinical setting; understands and demonstrates appropriate behavior when interacting with patients in the adult (18-65 years if age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.

    Essential Functions:

    • Assesses the needs of patients scheduled for procedures. Identifies potential or actual needs and communicates changes in patent status, needs or condition to the assigned nurse, supervisor and physician when applicable. Documents the assessment.
    • Plans the care of the patients and their families in response to identified needs, throughout the perioperative time frame. Documents the plan and revisions.
    • Implements the plan of care by providing nursing interventions directly and/or appropriately delegating tasks to others, demonstrating competent and proficient nursing practice. Responds appropriately and assists others in emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
    • Evaluates care provided during peri-operative time frame and documents the patient’s response to care provided. Plans, organizes and schedules procedures to facilitate proper utilization of time, resources, manpower, etc. to maintain efficient operation. Facilitates patient flow from care areas/nursing unit to procedural area.
    • Identifies individual learning needs of patients and families and educates in a manner that meets their special needs. Teaching is documented appropriately.
    • Performs high-level disinfection, as applicable on surgical instruments or equipment; demonstrates a constant awareness of asepsis and takes correct measures to ensure that technique is followed. Assures adequate par level of supplies for department.
    • The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served and other special needs of patients or customers, served by the department.
    • Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
    • Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

    Requirements

    Experience: Two (2) years of experience in an acute or LTACH setting is preferred. Two years prior experience in a peri-operative setting is strongly preferred.

    Education: Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse program is required.

    Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Nurse license in the state where practicing is required. Current BLS certification is required. ACLS certification is required. All Special ProceduresNurses must maintain
