Industrial Hygienist coordinates, plans and conducts programs to educate employees about cleanliness, safety and sanitation in the workplace. Inspects facilities and work areas to prescribes corrective actions to reduce the health risks. Being an Industrial Hygienist provides advice on methods and procedures to reduce occupational health risks. Determines measures to avoid any recurrence of accidents. Additionally, Industrial Hygienist evaluates facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promotes maintenance of a sanitary working environment. Conducts training in environmental compliance and the handling of hazardous materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. The Industrial Hygienist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Summary: Asbestos and/or hazardous/regulated materials inspections and associated reporting.
Tasks/Responsibilities will include:
• Perform asbestos and/or HAZMAT inspection and sampling
• Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, including Chain of Custody documentation
• Review and interpret laboratory results
• Prepare associated asbestos and/or HAZMAT inspection reports
• Oversee and document asbestos and/or HAZMAT abatement operations
• Complete post-abatement verification inspection and associated reporting
This position could help support City of Detroit project, doing pre-demolition inspections on thousands of residential homes. Will drive own vehicle to job sites and they have a small field office in Detroit that this person can work out of.
Qualifications:
2 years of experience in fields related to asbestos and/or HAZMAT surveys, sample preparation and/or report writing
Current State of Michigan Asbestos Inspector License or ability to take a refresher course to make it current
Familiar with EPA and EGLE standards, specifications and guidelines
MS office skills and ability to use a tablet
BONUS:
Experience with air monitoring, lead assessment/risk analysis and other industrial hygiene practices
Experience with demolition projects
