OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: The Industrial Engineer is responsible for leading continuous improvement activities and supporting operational teams to drive efficiencies.     

JOB SUMMARY:  The Industrial Engineer I role enables you to utilize your technical skills in a warehouse, manufacturing, and transportation environment. In the position, you will leverage your proficiency in project management, Lean Six Sigma, facility layout and design, productivity tracking, and warehouse slotting skills to lead significant warehouse projects and strategic corporate initiatives. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work closely with DC Operations Teams to support and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead cross-function teams in a semi-remote environment achieving aggressive goals
• Drive standardization in the engineering function and specifically slotting, handling and storage strategies, labor management, productivity and benchmark exercises
• Develop, maintain, and execute processes and tools to share best practices and learnings with operations and internal/external stakeholders
• Involvement in the recruitment, hiring, and training of subsequent Operations Support personnel
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in SAP Warehouse Mgmt. (WMS)
• Maintain a clean, safe and productive work environment while focusing on minimizing work-related injuries and complying with OSHA and company guidelines
• Execute company policies, procedures and programs in a professional and timely manner

• Other duties assigned as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or related engineering discipline is required
• High School diploma or GED is required

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years warehousing operations and engineering experience
• Experience in LEAN principles required
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
• Multi-site management a plus

      Requirements:

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Up to 50% overnight travel

      Skills:

• SAP experience strongly preferred
• Must be well versed in warehouse operations
• Demonstrates a commitment to supporting and driving operational process excellence
• Ability to combine critical thinking skills with strong analytical expertise to solve complex problems with significant data sets
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels of the company and able to adjust message according to the audience
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Team player with time management skills, can-do attitude, sense of urgency and strong work ethic 

Typical Physical Demands:

• Very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and working from elevated surfaces
• Frequently lift and/or move over 75 pounds
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate hardware typically found in a distribution environment
• Requires normal range of hearing and vision

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working within a fast-paced distribution center and tire retread plant environment where there may be wide temperature variations depending on weather conditions.  While performing duties, the employee is frequently exposed to dirt, dust, rubber smells and debris, cleaning solutions as well as powered material handling equipment and commercial truck traffic.

WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, based on business needs

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  Some travel may be required
