We have a challenging opportunity for a Manager of our Import and Export Operation based out of our JFK Airport location in Springfield Gardens, NY.

    The Manager is responsible for leading a team of Transportation Coordinators engaged in the processing and management of import and export shipments for our customer population, ensuring that outstanding support, service and communication is provided to all customers both internal/external and maintaining productive and professional relationships with international and domestic customers/affiliates. The Manager is responsible for facilitating a close working relationship and flow of communication with other departments in JFK, across the US and abroad. In addition, he/she is responsible for driving proper interaction with US CBP and other regulatory agencies, customs brokers, other vendors, customer service and at times directly with the Customer, and developing and maintaining key relationships with airlines and cargo handlers. The Manager is overall responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements within the scope of his/her area of responsibility. This position will be the primary day to day leader of our staff and will be responsible for their development, production and the level of service provided by all.

    Starting Pay: 100-115k

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for setting and managing the service roadmap for the Import and Export department and adapt as needed based on requirements from Customers and Affiliates

    • Responsible to ensure that processes are properly defined and documented; both for own department as well for processes across departments. Ensure proper training and comprehension of applicable staff

    • Ensure adherence with all Brink’s procedures, including but not limited to Operational, Safety and Security Procedures

    • Coordinate operational resources including staff, technology and training to ensure outstanding customer satisfaction is achieved while maintaining efficiency. This will be achieved through partnering with existing Brinks BGS resources as well as key executives within the BGS footprint.

    • Provides direction and structure for the Import/Export department to help generate a higher ROI and optimal workflow utilization, including but not limited to training initiatives, establishing key metrics, driving and monitoring productivity and improving business process.

    • Partner with other operational leaders to resolve recurring issues and provide long term solutions.

    • Effectively manage a close relationship with Customer Service, Operations, Sales and Security to ensure the right decisions are made at the right time, appropriate communication occurs and that plans are intelligently adjusted to reflect necessary fluctuations in goals and requirements as business needs change.

    • Apply company guidelines and goals in respect to working conditions, atmosphere and performance of directly subordinated staff.

    • Ensure that the team responds to incoming communications from internal and external customers and where necessary take an active hands on role to resolve and escalate issues as needed including the providing of product line data and the quoting of prices for all services.

    • Work closely with all Customer Service and operations departments across the US to provide and communicate accurately all information and pricing for services to customers and where necessary other internal departments within Brinks as well.

    • Manage the communication and coordination of all customs clearance and transportation arrangements for commodity/customer moves including routing, delivery, booking, and other transportation logistics.

    • Ensure that all documentation – transportation as well as regulatory – are processed in a compliant and timely manner

    • Ensure that enquiries from regulating bodies are handled professionally and with proper prioritization; and as and when needed personally engage in such communication

    • Respond to inquiries regarding status of shipments in transit; follow through on trace request as necessary; provide proof of delivery as requested.

    • When necessary conduct routine visits and audits of field location processes and work closely with Operations and Sales to ensure that all new and existing clients are being serviced effectively.

    • Manage relationships and performance of airlines and other vendors.

    • Initiate continuous improvement opportunities, consolidation analysis and manage freight spend

    • Provide updates and manage the training of field staff, new hires and participate in staff onboarding efforts to ensure consistent application and dissemination of the company’s service mission and priorities.

    • Foster a culture of frequent, honest and respectful communication and collaboration

    • Support the personal development of staff and take appropriate measures to create an environment of motivated and committed teams

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 10 years in freight forwarding environment with both Import, Export and direct customer (internal and external) contact in positions of increasing responsibility including but not limited to managing and leading staff.

    • Minimum of 5 years of Customer Service experience servicing high touch / operations dependent customers preferably in a logistics/air freight forwarding organization or transferrable internal Brinks experience.

    • Expert experience in regulatory compliance related to import/export transportation, primarily airfreight (IATA), trucking, Customs and other Regulatory Agencies

    • Proficient in MS Office and Windows applications with a focus on Excel and other related transportation/logistics software.

    • A valid firearms permit or ability/willingness to pass applicable firearms licensing requirements if required.

    • A valid guard card or ability to obtain a guard card or any other required licenses.

    • Must be 21 yrs. of age

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing or related field.

    • Lean certification preferred.

    • Experience in creating and implementing both policy/process and the technology to support the same.

    • Extensive knowledge of freight forwarding and supply chain operations.

    • Extensive knowledge of regulatory compliance related to international (primarily air) and domestic transportation (primarily air and trucking)

    • Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships within a global organization.

    • Exceptional problem solver with the ability to transition between detailed data and high-level conclusion/recommendations.

    • Experience in interpreting data analytics to derive business insight and drive customer value.

    • Experience in working within a matrix organization in which leadership and results are driven through influence and relationships rather than mandate.

    • Proven track record of documenting, implementing and auditing of SOP’s designed to improve operational efficiencies and ROI.

    • Experience in and an advocate of a CAPA/RCA based culture to drive improvements and proactive thinking and behaviors

    • The ideal candidate has experience in handling of valuables, high risk commodities and pharmaceuticals
